Mapping Boat 'Fly Away' during Mission - WHY?

Boat: 3-meter trimaranMotor: 2.5hp Suzuki 4 strokeController: PixHawkMapping Speed 14-19kph (4-5m/s)Fly Away - a. During the North / South routes everything seems ok, except the wobbly courseb. When the East / West routes start, it immediately fails to do the short route from #52 to #54, but rather does a full west run to nowhere, then returns to #54, but then skips #56 and #58 and goes straight to #60, BUT NOW THE ROUTE IS IN THE WRONG DIRECTION!c. Then rather than gpoing to #62, it heads off…See More

Servo PWM to H-Bridge (High Current)

Hi all, as some of you might remember I was having a problem with my survey boat zig zagging terribly while carrying out a mission.  At first I thought it was a Mission Planner parameter setting, but it turned out to be the little L298N H-Bridge failing due to excessive heat.  This was caused by me upgrading the outboard motor to a Suzuki 2.5hp four stroke which turns out to have a LOT more drag on the pivot (steering) column.  This drag put extra stress on the little 2A H-Bridge causing it to…See More

"Hi Ben, For throttle, any little servo works fine, just remove the idle spring. For steering a car's wiper motor works fine, just find one with little to no play in the arm. Regards John"

Hello Mr John.

I was following your Pixhawk Boat Project. That is very amazing and technically great.

I am curious about one thing and hopefully you can help me out on this.

you mentioned that "Steering servo is via a vehicle wiper motor for torque using an old servo motor for potentiometer and output to a H-Bridge L298N"

I am trying to control a DC wiper motor same H-Bridge controller with arduino, but its not precise.

Can you elaborate your setup for my help ?

details of your setup and pictures or wiring will help a lot. and if you modified code for this, that will be great to share.

Looking forward.

Hi Tipu,

I am having the same problem with erratic steering and am trying to sort it out currently.

Regards

John
