Kickstarter Campaign for the Kahone 3-Axis Gimbal for GoPro Hero 3 & 4

Posted on July 22, 2015 at 9:38am 12 Comments

Our Kickstarter campaign will launch in August 2015 and we would greatly appreciate your support. In this campaign we will be raising funds for two of our current products. The first product is the Kahone 3-Axis Gimbal for drones and the second is the Kahone Handheld. The renderings of…

Karl, can you show some actual UAV footage of the gimbal. The boat test was good but it was not a very realistic test as the the boat platform is pretty brutal. I would expect better results from a UAV actually. An actual boat chase is a very good test. Something like this with a background horizon in view (probably a Phantom 3): https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=13&v=DvVT-kJ50ns

A good tip would be to make the controller mount easily able to accept a Storm32 board. A lot of people are using these now and many report as good if not better results than AlexMos 32 bit. Total cost is $25! Firmware freely given by Olli. If you included this in your Kickstarter with tuned PIDS it would make it more plug and play and lower the cost to the user by $200.

This looks like the best gimbal I have seem for mounting on a fixed wing (upside down, upfront). You should get someone to do that for you as well and fly it.

I love your quad concept. Really nice. Does that gimbal mount on your quad have any dampening?

Good luck. Look forward to seeing the kickstarter.

I truly appreciate your valuable input.  As a startup, I regard the comments and criticisms as the best tool for refinement.  Currently, I am busy putting together all the different pieces of the Kickstarter campaign which will also include aerial footage.  Hopefully, before the campaign is scheduled to start I can find a fixed wing UAV pilot to get a different perspective of the gimbal.

As far as the BGC is concerned, the gimbal mechanics are very universal and will accept a variety of controllers. I have been corresponding with Basecam and have reached a good deal with them for the included BGC.   I do agree with you and will also offer the gimbal in a Storm32 format as well.  The goal is to make the gimbal a true plug and play system.

Thanks again for your truly valuable comments and suggestions.

The gimbal shown in the Concept Quad rendering is mounted to the same dampening system as the standalone gimbal pics.  It was mounted into a recess and covered to give a smooth transition.

Also, the gimbal will have a full unobstructed continuos 360 degree on the yaw axis.

As a side note I developed a custom 2 axis version for http://magnetsystems.net/.  This unit is a cartridge system in which you can remove the Gopro cartridge and insert an FPV camera cartridge. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fJJzKIOzGs
