"Out of curiosity, why use a disarm switch at all? It is because you're using a joystick that doesn't have a left throttle/rudder stick, for the usual down-and-right disarm move?"

I'm rebuilding an old quadcopter that never took off about 7 years ago. It's an old X525 frame. With the guidance of the director of the UAS program at a local college, I've replaced the flight controller with an HKPilot32, added GPS, SiK telemetry, a GoPro and a RunCam Owl mounted on a gimbal printed on my 3D printer. About Me:
I'm a 40 year old gov't administrator that likes to tinker with 3D printing, CNC milling, routering, and laser cutting/engraving along with the obvious drone project.
Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest
I tried and failed to build a quadcopter about 7 years ago, but with some assistance from a local community college UAS department director, I'm back in business. I just built a quadcopter with an HKPilot32 flight controller and am working my way through some of its functionalities.
