Ardupilot with gyro/accelero instead of X,Y,Z horizon sensor

Hi,I would like to use ArduPilot first in a boat and then in a seaplane.X,Y,Z horizon sensor might not works properly with the boat and with the plane as well because the lake is between hill.…Continue

Rc inputs problem on Arducopter

Hello everybody,Today I soldered all the electronics components for  my Arducopter and when I tested rc inputs I have found a strange problem:After loading Arducopter alpha 1.0 I tested it with Configurator.  Adc work properly, but nothing on the motor (also I arm output motor with transmitter), motors outputs on Configurator stay at 1040! However  each motor connected on APM outputs move as if they were directly connect to the receiver, that means, if I move throttle stick(channel 3) with …See More

"Well, if you shield it you are just distorting its output in a different way. I think the better way to put it would be to try to shield the motor/esc/stuff causing magnetic field disturbance. There is a magnetic shielding material sold in thin…"

"Ah, I see. Thanks for the clarification! On the subject of magnetometers, is there any way to shield them so that their readings aren't altered by the proximity of stuff like the motor? (Either by shielding the magnetometer, or shielding the…"

"You kind of get it, but not quite. The gyros drift. You can correct the drift but to do so you need at least 2 independant reference vectors to correct the drift in 3 axes. You get one vector from looking at gravity with the accelerometers.…"

"Argh, can't believe I missed that. I saw that FAQ, and thought it just explained literally what they all were. Ok, so I think I get it now. The accelerometers can correct gyro drift in pitch and roll because they can tell which way is down, so…"

"Start with the FAQs that are right on the front page of this site. There's a glossary and an explanation of how accelerometer, gyro and GPS data are fused to cancel drift."

"No drift? Ok, I'm kinda new to UAV building - I don't actually have a flyable platform yet, it's kinda missing some bits... like, er, wings... and a motor... but I'm working on it! Anyways, being new, I'm not 100% savvy with…"

"There are several threads here about doing just that...but before you lump the ArduIMU in with gyros or even standard IMUs, the ArduIMU is not a standard IMU. Its an IMU-AHRS. Re-read Chris's post above!"

"When you say "Thermopile Replacement", I assume that means that the ArduPilot can only take readings from one or the other, right? I ask, because I was contemplating using a second board (probably an Arduino Nano) to take readings from…"

"ArduIMU+ V2 uses a low-pass hardware filter and a DCM software filter. The outputs are absolute attitude angles. No drift."
