Looking for gyro/servo for a wing leveler. Need about 12 lb/inch torque. The gyros for camera look promising but not enough torque. I just want to build a simple wing leveler for full size rutan…Continue

I'm building an Aero Deigns Pulsar tail dragger with a Rotax 912ULS. I'm out to do it on a budget, which as you know is very hard with full size airplanes.

I have a lot of experience with RC aircraft including jets, (I saved a ton of money there also, by making a lot of my own parts and turbine engines), and have been looking at this option for some time, as USD3500 for something to hold a track and altitude just doesn't seem right, especially when Im going to be flying VFR and non certified.

Have you looked at the newer versions of the hardware out there like the Feiyu AP41 etc? I have been wondering if you could use it as a 2 axis autopilot, simply with switches and knobs or toggle switches, to mimic commands from and RC receiver for track etc adjustments?

I imagined that a disconnect would be as easy as removing power from the servos, while keeping the AP electronics powered? It's easy to do and I was thinking that you'd want the servos on a seperate power supply anyway to avoid over loading the AP units power supply.

Modern digital servos have pretty much no resistance when un powered, and if connected to the controls via springs, which is how the trims are set up on my airplane then they are easy to over power anyway?

Did you get any satisfactory wing leveling or track hold with the FY21? I have seen that the modern stuff seems pretty adjustable via the GCS software?

Hi Tim,

I am installing it in a Titan Tornado II.

I have a Picollo and a Pixhawk. Originally I was going to install the Picollo system but I now want to use the open source Pixhawk system.

Thanks for the info.
