DroidPlanner 2.3.3 - New version, new features

Posted on May 19, 2014 at 10:30am 37 Comments

DroidPlanner 2.3.3 is out on Google Play Store. This release shouldn’t change much for the average user (just a couple of bug fixes), but it’s a huge improvement for developers.

The changes include (here is the full change log):…

On the first release of Droidplanner I introduced a tool to help with the placement of Ground Control Points (visual markers placed on the field for aerial photogrammetry purposes). But on …

One year of DroidPlanner

Posted on March 20, 2014 at 1:00pm 8 Comments

Today marks one year from the first public release of DroidPlanner (on March 20, 2013), so I thought would be nice to share some statistics.

The image above shows the number of active devices on which the application is currently installed.

And this is the distribution of installs by country:…

I was hoping you could help me get DroidPlanner working on my tablet.

It is a Novo 7 Aurora, 7", running Android 4.0.3.

I get the "Unfortunately DroidPlanner has stopped" message. I have google play running fine - got no warning about it during installation. I also have 'let google use location information' checked. Are there any other prerequisites? I have read many other posts about the same error - one resolved by installing google play (already have it), the other had to buy a new tablet. Do i need to update google play?

Any thoughts?

Having everything up-to-date is a good idea. Other things you can do are show at this forum post:

Hello again, i got it working by installing google play services - not really worthy of starting a thead. It looks great! I plan on using a ftdi adapter in the tablet connected to a orangeRX TX module in tha back of my RC controller to receive telemetry!

Have you heard of anyone getting a FTDI usb adapter working like this in android?

It should work without problems. 3DR radios are basically a FTDI adapter + radio module.

Is it possible to use Droidplanner 2 with a Phantom 2 using a  Futaba D8FG Radio Transmitter?

@Russell Castagna: If DJI had the minimum consideration for open-source, or even their users, it could be possible. But currently no.

We have waited a long time for follow-me and region-of-interest. You teased us with a couple of exposures to it and then took them away.
Can you please just add them to the current stable edition?

OwlPic: both follow-me and ROI are on the beta build, and the code has had them for more than a month:

It has been a long time since the last public release, mostly because we have been focusing on making the next release rock-solid.

Hi Arthur,

Tried to reach you here and via your gmail account. I asked you a few questions about the DP and DP2 apps. I would really appreciate if you could address my questions when you get a chance.

Dear Arthur,

I would kindly ask for your help on an issue. My friends and I just have started to work on Tower and we want to develop some additional features related with 3d missions And my question is if there is a simulation tool that you could suggest us to simulate our software work on lab without any actual hardware platform? This simulation doesn't have to include detailed dynamic model of the drone, we just want to make some functional tests related with the changes we made.

Many Thanks,
