Just getting started (again)

I flew my ArduPilot V1 in a 33inch wingspan redi-board foam plane on numerous occasions with great success early last year. RTL and way point mode worked great after lowering the gains for the small light craft. Of course it only flies well on calm days since it had no stabilization. I retired it a few months ago and am building a pusher this time, 50-60 inch KFM3 wing, the fuse and tail modeled after the Raven UAV. If it flies I'll post picks :), the wing is built, and the fuse will be ready… Continue

So went through many boards trying to get useful results from thermopiles. The trick is they have the teeniest tinyest voltage changes & very slow responsiveness. Work around the responsiveness through extreme amplification.

The unamplified thermopile was immediately busted. Not enough current.

Straight 2:1 amplifier. The voltage changes were too small.…

New $50 PIC prgrammer from Sparkfun. Will it work with the UAVDevBoard?

Another PIC programmer option from Sparkfun, perhaps an alternative to the dubious PICkit III. The $49 Cana Kit says it is "100% compatible with Microchip's MPLAB IDE, and the PICkit 2…

ArduPilot 2.5 manual now on the Google Code wiki

With all the changes and improvements in ArduPilot 2.5, we decided to redo the manual as a wiki on the project's Google Code site. As with all wikis, it's a work in process, but it's now good enough that we have retired the old manual. All the manual links should now point to the wiki.…

Lucky shot of a hawk in flight

I realize that this isn't directly relevant to the development of uav systems, but here is a lucky shot I got last week of a red tail hawk in flight. I pulled this frame from a video using VLC player and the camera that I used was a keychain camera I bought on ebay.

T3 Round 5 deadline moved to March 14th

Due to crappy weather over the past month, not enough people have been able to do their T3 Round 5 (virtual Sparkfun competition) runs. So we're going to extend the deadline to Sunday, March 14th, at 12:00 midnight PST, giving you two more weekends to do your runs. This is an easy one, so let's get some more times out there!
