World class small enterprise map production performance in Namibia.

Last Friday I had fun witnessing Diether Engelhard and Andreas Breitenstein pulling off four 1hr flawess flights in one day with their APM1 equipped X8 to map some 900 hectares of farmlands in Namibia. The X8 covered a total distance of 240km to provide high resloution aerial imagery - altogether some 9000 20MP images captured with a Samsung NX 1000 camera. This is a classic example of how small, private sector enterprise entrepreneurism and initiative can lead a country to…

NDVI flight results

Following on from my last post on modifying the PowerShot S95 for NIR photography. I have ran a couple of test flights to collect some heathland data. The last flight produced 134 photos which were stitched with Agisoft Photoscan and then processed with the Fiji Photo monitoring plugin to produce the NDVI image shown. Original output files can be found …

DIY Bluetooth AlexMos/BaseCam gimbal controller

I just finished making a tutorial on how to build a Arduino gamepad-based controller for any of the AlexMos-based gimbals out there with Bluetooth.  The build itself is super-easy to do, probably taking about an hour or so, and the parts can be had for under $100, so I think it's a great option when you want to have one person control the camera while another controls the…
