Antenna Tracking - Initial Testing

I know that antenna tracking is nothing new, but I had to share my excitement in getting mine built and working!  My inner-nerd celebrated at the sound of the servo motors coming to life for the first time and I have been trying to perfect the pointing ever since.

My basic approach was to designate a position in the software…

ArduPilot flight controller with onboard OSD ( and optional RPI Zero daughter board)

Here is a preview of my current project, a flight controller with onboard OSD targetted mainly at ArduPlane. The Board incorporates an OSD for FPV similar to that in . The OSD video out also…

Build your own Antenna Tracking pan tilt system

Willing to try out APM antenna tracking, I needed to procure myself with a mechanical servo based pan-tilt system.

This video is both a build log and a kind of "how-to" antenna tracker build guide for those who want to try build their own.

I logically first started to look around to purchase one; my market research basically…

Multi-Vehicle testing with APM:Copter, Tracker and Mission Planner

For some tasks (like Search and Rescue and mapping) what you can do with one vehicle, you can probably do faster with multiple vehicles.  To test how well it works in practice I tested…

3DR Telemetry module recycled with DIY dipole & Bluetooth (tested succesfully on Droidplanner)

Some of you might remember a previous blog post last summer about my trainer 3DR quad going into the trees.

As a result I broke the 433Mhz telemetry module and antenna, as you can see on the picture above (SMA connector was ripped off the board).

This module was in my drawer since…

HeavyDuty Antenna tracker

Time to start build next version of antenna trackers. As antennas are getting bigger and bigger we planned to make one heavyduty antenna tracker that can turn 2kg antenna clusters.

Basic tech:

  • 360 yaw with 1 degree accuracy
  • -5 - 90…

Antenna tracker for the MultiWii platform using MW V2.1 protocol.

Just spent a couple of hours getting my head around the MultiWii V2.1 serial protocol.  This involved looking at EOSBandi's MW-WinGUI Visual Studio c# code and adapting the essential bits I need to a simple test VB 2010 app.  The app sends the commands to get the GPS bearing and distance to home as well as the…

Ground Station gets an upgrade

I like to spend my time in the field actually flying and not spending hours plugging things in.

Here is the latest upgrade to my Ground Station which provides a single wire from my antenna to my laptop.

All I need to take to fly is the antenna, laptop, plane and an XBox controller.

A single USB cable goes…

Updated for ACM 2.5.3 and APM 2.3.0 - Unified Ardustation 2 With Parameter Editing, Antenna Tracking and Auto Detection of Arducopter or ArduPlane

This is an update from the original blog post in October 2011:

I've updated the Ardustation 2  source code to allow compilation with Arduino 1.0 Relax and the latest libraries for ACM 2.5.3 and APM 2.3.0. This update also includes a modification of parameter names for PID editing that match ACM and…
