That one has been around for a few months, they also copied everything else, radios, gps etc... As anything from the east, no idea what the quality is like.

It's old, and already talked here. It's not pirating, the design is open source.

Comment by Peter Meister on February 13, 2013 at 9:22am

This is old news, the APM is opensource and anyone can copy it. As for quality, well lets be honest we get quite a lot of our stuff from china, so is quality really a concern from china. I don't think so.

Yeah china is not using crap pick and place machines, lets face it, they probably are using much superior ones then most small businesses can afford today. Not knocking DIYDRONES, but you are competing with the China Industrial Complex and they are not skimping on the machinery they use. However they may skimp on material :)

I have ordered this kit, and I am amazed by the quality of the board.
It's one of the best boards that I have ever received from a .cn manufacturer.

I find these comments odd. APM itself is largely copied from others. It's as if something not made by 3Drobotics is somehow wrong, made of inferior parts, or made by slave labor. The bias of Diydrones is astounding! Supposedly this is a generic "diydrones" community. Obviously it is not.

The most telling thing about a point of reference is that it measures margin of a product being sold. In this case, clearly APM is marked up more 100% over it's competitors. They must do this to satisfy their bankers who expect a 10x return on their investment, pay for marketing, $6/hour labor+  in Tijuana, as well as satisfy their own desires for expansion. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking capitalism--it works. But when such is propagandized to a community who largely built, but has zero rights to their products beyond their consumption, things are more complicated. Not knocking that either, naive people must learn for themselves about the world as it is, just pointing out the inherent complexities.

To counter the china prejudice, here's an example of what these thing cost made Germany: http://www.quantec-networks.de/quanton This uses a fork of Openpilot, & uses far superior parts than the APM 2.5.
