UAV Electric Propulsion System Survey

Greetings everyone,

We at Zubax Robotics conduct research, design, and manufacturing of highly energy-efficient motor controllers and integrated drives for aerospace applications. One of our primary goals is to deliver better motor controllers for the UAV industry. To advance our research, we created a survey that will help us capture some of the needs of the industry.

The obtained data will be used to optimize our solutions for the current and future needs of the industry and help us alleviate one of the most significant issues of battery-powered UAV, limited endurance. Results of the survey will be shared via email with everyone interested.

Looks like your just trying to find a size (current and voltage) and application for your esc. 
I don't really care as long as i can finally buy an esc with good canbus support  for arducopter&PX4 that will give (or has the potential to give) the flight controle software: Current, RPM, temperature, errors (out of sync or other) perhaps even a torque calculation.

Zubax, I looked at your Myxa product line. Maybe I missed it, but what are the amp ratings for the ESCs?

Myxa A/B in the aluminum enclosure are rated for up to 1000 W; the bare-board versions are rated for up to 400 W. The maximum continuous motor phase current is up to 30 A. HI, Very nice product. 


We have a fixed wings plane, we would like to know:

Do you support the Active Freewheeling and the engine break at the same time? 

Also, do you have the soft startup features for fixed wings to avoid any tail drift?

We use the Platinum Pro 80A from Hobbywing.

Yes, these are vector control ESC.

Yes, startup torque is configurable.

It says that these are 30 amp continuous and 50 amp burst. Does that mean that at 6s I can still hit 50 amp burst since that would be close to 1300 watts? I’m thinking things like takeoff or whatnot where I’m at full throttle for 10-30 seconds.

Edward, this is the phase current, not the DC current. The relationship between the two is governed by the speed of your motor and its torque. Have a look at this note here: https://forum.zubax.com/t/quick-start-guide-for-myxa-v0-1/911/9?u=p...

The current rating alone is insufficient to define the power capability of a motor controller because essentially a motor controller works as a step-down DC-DC converter. As such, if you chose a higher-voltage power supply, the DC current will be reduced, but the phase current will be kept at the same level because the controller will have to step-down the voltage to meet the demands of the drive.
