Awesome news. A big brother to the Solo, capable of lifting a proper camera would be great. Smart shots with a Red or Black Magic camera... now we're really talking! Especially if you could save those shoots for reshoots. It would save a lot of money not needing a second operator, etc. Could probably pay for itself in one job.
  • Hi Chris,

What happens with Aero? Will it be continued as is, or will it be replaced?

  • 3D Robotics

IRIS+ is already quite inexpensive at $599, so we'll keep it there. New Pixhawk should be announced in a month or two

  • Chris,  is the IRIS+ going to go on sale at all? When do you expect to announce the new Pixhawk platform? Thanks!

  • 3D Robotics

We're going to support the Solo platform, the Pixhawk platform (in new improved form soon) and future autopilot platforms. We announced the details here

  • Chris,

Does this mean that all 3DR is going to offer going forward is the SOLO platform and related tech? How are they going to handle their Pixhawk line of support? Will they continue to sell Pixhawk independently?

  • 3D Robotics

We're going to be replacing the whole multicopter line with products built on the Solo platform, which has SoloLink, Pixhawk2 and the onboard Linux computer built in. These older models are built on RC and low-bandwidth telemetry and analog video, which doesn't take advantage of Dronekit and Solo SDK the way the more modern Internet-standard and cloud-connected Solo platform does.

    DroneKit
DroneKit makes it easy to create custom applications to control any vehicle powered by MAVLink. Best of all, it is open sourced and free for everyone…
  • X8+ is really great value/money! Here you see an example of last August where I integrated a thermal camera to map diseases in oil palm trees. Will these product be discontinued soon? And more important, will 3DR offer a similar octocopter in the future??
