That my list of 9x radio mods, Keeping it DIY, and under $200 :)

First one is 'er9x' firmware super easy:

Here is wiki page and good 'How to wire' videos: Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 you'll need some programmer this one works fine

also you can use arduino board

'eepe' tool is here

Next one is the 6 position 'mode' switch for ArduPlane/Copter, here is my original mod and complete 'how to' from Paul. That is 2 pole switch, so its 2 switches in one and I used that second switch for LEDs.

Next is the Turnigy 9X LCD Backlight Kit from HK 'how to' is here :)9X-LCD-BL.jpg?width=600IMPORTANT !!! DON'T DO THAT

Step3(2).jpg?width=600

Just cut-off some of extra foam but don't try to completely remove it, big mess !

Speaker Mod with Haptic Feedback really cool one :)

Next FrSky Telemetry

There is number of ways to do it 'How to modify your 9x to support telemetry'

one is using 'FrSkyLite' that also used for 'FrSky' firmware upgrades.

But here is another one that also converts 'FrSky' module to support firmware upgrades via FTDI cable.

You'll need to perform minor surgery on that DHT DIY module :)

    @Kamu, not yet.. :(

    but here some good news http://www.ersky9x.net/Products.html

  • Hey Max, did you ever get around to doing that thumbstick mod write up?

  • hi fellas, is it true the smartiepants board er9x is just a interface board to allow to upgrade the firware on the 9x radio stock board and once done you can only store 1 model due to the memory size?

  • That PSP thumbstick is an awesome idea. Waiting for that tutorial! :)

  • the two upper pots.

    You can route two of any of the three pots avaiable, i think there's no difference.

    Small joystick from sparkfun is cool and small, but i could not sort how to cable it to the 9x, although i'm no master in electronics.

    With my joystick, which is one clone nunchuck for the Wii you can find cheap on eBay, you have the standard 3 wires for each pot. You must cable the two outer wires in series with the original pot, while cabling the center wire on the switch (which is a "diverter" type, double pin strip - i hope it's correct in English) which routes the middle wire from the one from one pot or the joystick one. Repeat the same for the other pot.

  • What pots did you reroute the cabling from?

  • It recenters. if you look carefully,  there's a switch next to the upper pot. With that,  you choose to use the two pots to move cam axis in a "fixed" no-recentering way or move with the joystick with recentering. You must do zero position with subtrim menu.
    That's mandatory because if you connect both pot and joystick, it can work (pot acts like trim) but if you reach end positio  with pot and joystick,  it causes radio to reboot due to an internal short.

    @max: very nice!

    @Paul, I'll post the how to for the LEDs as I done with the joystick thing :)

  • Does it recenter the camera when you let go of the sticks or stays that direction until you move the joysticks.

  • here's a "teaser" of it.. ;)3692385521?profile=original
