Correct ArduPilot LED behavior

The correct ArduPilot LED displays are as follows. See the above picture for reference: First power-up of board, straight from the factory:
Power: On
Stat: Flashing in sequence
GPS Lock: Flashing in sequence
MUX: Off unless a RC receiver channel is connected to CTRL pins and that channel is toggled on
Mode: Off
After ArduPilot 1.0 code is loaded, but no GPS connected
Power: On
Stat: On
GPS Lock: Off
MUX: Off unless a RC receiver channel is connected to CTRL pins and that channel is toggled on
Mode: Off
ArduPilot 1.0 code loaded, GPS connected but has not obtained a lock
Power: On
Stat: On
GPS Lock: Off
MUX: Off unless a RC receiver channel is connected to CTRL pins and that channel is toggled on
Mode: Off
GPS LED: On
ArduPilot 1.0 code loaded, GPS connected and locked
Power: On
Stat: Blinking
GPS Lock: On
MUX: Off unless a RC receiver channel is connected to CTRL pins and that channel is toggled on
Mode: Off
GPS LED: Blinking
ArduPilot 2.0 code loaded, autopilot in manual mode, jumper placed on digital pins 6&7, GPS connected
Power: On
Stat: Will blink twice as GPS is programmed into binary mode, then blink steadily
GPS Lock: Flashing while it attempts to aquire a lock; solid afterwards
MUX: Will turn on briefly during boot, then stay off
Mode: Off
GPS LED: Off
ArduPilot 2.0 code loaded, autopilot in auto mode 1 (middle position of toggle switch), jumper removed from digital pins 6&7, GPS connected
Power: On
Stat: Off
GPS Lock: Flashing while it attempts to aquire a lock; solid afterwards
MUX: On
Mode: On
GPS LED: Off
ArduPilot 2.0 code loaded, autopilot in auto mode 2 (high position of toggle switch), jumper removed from digital pins 6&7, GPS connected
Power: On
Stat: Off
GPS Lock: Flashing while it attempts to aquire a lock; solid afterwards
MUX: On
Mode: Off
GPS LED: Off

Jay, this is an archival post, which we're not updating. Please see the manual for the latest info. (But to answer your question, the table in the manual is correct, but not comprehensive. We're constantly adding to the manual, so it will get there....)
  • Are the tables still up tod ate with v 2.4
  • Current taken by ArduPilot and GPS shown

The voltage reg gets very hot and it seems to trip out, notice the power led going out?

    The battery is a 900mah 7.4v Lipo

    IMGP0004.AVI

    IMGP0005.AVI

It seems there is a problem

    1. I cannot get my leds to look as per the tables
    2. although its a sirf3 GPS module (BR-355) I dont know if its going into binary mode
    3. Is the board faulty (have I messed something up when soldering in the pins)?
    4. Am I over driving it with 7.4v, I was hoping to use a 200 or 360mah 7.4v lipo to power it, should I be thinking 4.8v?

I know some of these questions should be in other sections but it seems to relate to the led behavior

    Thanks

  • Here we go
    ArduPilot 2.0
    program loaded nothing else

    IMGP0001.AVI

    GPS now connected

    IMGP0002.AVI

Now switched channel connected and toggled 2 times

    IMGP0003.AVI

  • A bit like this

    IMGP0001.AVI

    Hope that works

  • Hello, just put my pins in and powered up (no GPS or servos, 1st time power up), I get the following

Power = red led = on
    Mux = not on
    Mode = not on
GPS = blue led = on and sequenced (ie follows same pattern as Status)
Status = yellow led = on (leads GPS led about 6 flashes then stays on for about 1/2 sec)

Does everything look ok so far?

Waiting for FTDI breakout to arrive

    Thanks

    Ronnie
  • Thanks Chris! I was going to suggest that this be linked to the "ArduPilot Assembly Instructions" but I see you're way ahead of me. I appreciate all the baby steps you've taken on this project so beginners like me can follow along. Keeps the learning curve within my grasp.
