DIY Ghetto 5.8g wireless monitor project

Hello, I decided to make a guide for people who wish to make a neat budget wireless fpv monitor. I figure that it costs less than half the amount to make your own than to buy an off the shelf monitor. And besides, it is fun to hack and be creative. You also learn some valuable skills.

Here we see the finished product:

To merge the RC305 & Monitor we have to open the back case and make some wiring adjustments and cut some holes using a dremmel tool.

As you can see, the wiring diagram for the monitor is quite simple. It allows us to merge the power wires of the RC305 & monitor, and also to connect the RC305 video out to one of the monitor's inputs.

We can see that once the RC305 board has been taken out of it's casing, it fits neatly inside the monitor with a single sticky pad to fix it.

We can add a small latching switch on the side and even add a headphone jack to allow us to better judge motor power when flying far away.

Adding a cheap mini DVR recorder is the next step to achieving a neat wireless monitor setup. We have to extend the back casing for this thing to fit inside though.

The finished product is neat and tidy. I also have plans for further advancement such as a touchscreen and droidplanner on the screen's video2 channel allowing us to switch between video screen and droidplanner screen. It is quite cheap to implement.

The How-to tutorial is here: http://dalybulge.blogspot.co.uk/

I will be adding more to this in the near future so please check again in a week or so.

Thanks and happy flying :)

  • That's nice friend. Please message me if you wish to send me fpv samples. Thank you!

  • OK, you are right, This is a kind of method. but  i think it is inconvenient , when you are  operating the remote control,  Your hands wil be so busy. If the FPV  monitor has a sunlight shield to settle it  ,perhaps  this is a very good solution.  make you to the top of your bent for FPV, right? and the monitor and sunlight sheiled are integrative, also you can fold the sunlight shield, it is convenient. i hope this method  is useful for you.  i am a FPV enthusiast, meanwhile, i am a salesman for FPV equipment, so i am familiar  with them in this line. they are selling well in western countries.  i hope you dont mind my words.

  • Very Nice, guy, good job.   but the  FPV equipment is not light shield on the monitor. i think you cannot see clearly under the sunlight.  as follows:F5FVSDUMKG3G7MUYWQJ1.png

  • Hi Hans, I lke the DVR for what it does and the res it records. I only want a basic screen recording to place in the corner of the videos I record, it does recorde 30fps if you adjust the settings .txt file. Hope this helps :)

  • Nice! I built my system with the same screen but an cheaper receiver.

On the blog, you have a DVR. How do you think it works? I also have one, but had trouble getting it to work well.

Went over to a more expensive and hard-core DVR (40USD).

  • He must not have, still waiting on the larger batteries to see can fly together! Keep it up Ben!

  • what's the total weight all in ?

    - It is very lightweight. It is not at all noticeable on the arms when holding it, i'd say it is superlight.

No arguments that building is nice, but its actually not that much of a saving. For under $200 you can buy a 11" FPV monitor with diversity, from surveilzone.com. I dont think you can build for less than that.

    - Dude. This DIY tutorial costs $50 and you're saying 'no comparision to a $200 system'. Did you even read the article?
