ETH's Raffaello D'Andrea presenting at TED -- Wow!

3689681698?profile=original

ETH (home of Dronecode's PX4 project) is now leading the world in advanced drone tech. Just watch this amazing video...

Autonomous systems expert Raffaello D'Andrea develops flying machines, and his latest projects are pushing the boundaries of autonomous flight — from a flying wing that can hover and recover from disturbance to an eight-propeller craft that's ambivalent to orientation ... to a swarm of tiny coordinated micro-quadcopters. Prepare to be dazzled by a dreamy, swirling array of flying machines as they dance like fireflies above the TED stage.

  • Hi all

I remeber two years ago there has presented the swarm uav show flight light in the sky, the company named Ars Electronica Futurelab, alleged that they have developed the swarm manager software and by using this 3d animation design and planning tool they show a fabulous sky sculpture in London.

who know about some details related the software and ground control unit system?

  • Hello Vorney

This might be an interesting avenue: http://diydrones.com/profiles/blogs/swarming-robot-boats-demonstrat...

They use boats, so it is 2D and much lower speed and much less precision. So if you dig into this you will have to resolve the problem of having rtk gps  receiver flying in a sub 100 gram quad.and talking with each other with a an ad-hoc type of wireless link... This will come, that is for sure, but in 2016 it is a  little bit early, making this field of experimentation  a little bit  out of reach for my own resources :-)

  • @Patrick

thank your advice, but paper of Kumar depicted to organize swarm indoor enviroment, but i plan to conduct this sameswarm flying in outdoor field, so how to implement the algorithm ,particularly with the GPS position way?

would you like give me some reference or instruction?

  • Well ...This is pretty advanced stuff, I would not expect a "plug and play" , step by step a la Instructables for these. .. And get ready to spend a couple of k$ to get these flying around ;-)
  • @vorney : check google.com LOL

  • thank you very much, Patrick,

if i want use your UWD position sensor, whether it means that  i need to buy 5 sensor located around the corner of the test enviroment and one reciever sensor mounted on the bitcraze quadcopter? or i get these sensor for the wholesale price of  the integration system?

or if i want practice flying swarm by bitcraze, if there have be the function and source code existed in the source of Github repository?

    kind regards

  • Hello Vorney

You can certainly start with this:

  • HI all,

who know how to organized the micro bitcraze moving the shape like circle and pyramid at the end the talk show?

and what is the related algorithm ? where can find the reference paper and website involved the swarm control?

    thanks !

  • amazing!

  • @Garry Qualls

Wow, thanks for the link. I didn't realize somebody already had it up-and-running... The up/down is a little off, but I think that is fix-able controls issue.
