For anyone using Mission Planner as a ground control station, check out these additions we've made to streamline MP to our workflow. We typically run mapping missions on fixed wing aircraft at Event 38, so these are tailored to that use, but some of our features are more general purpose. I'll outline the features we've added below and open up to comments about what you think should be merged into the master Mission Planner codebase. Let us know what you want!

Automated Pre-flight Checklist

We’re finally coming out of the dark ages, no more paper checklists! Mission Planner already has all telemetry data at its disposal, why not have it help check off setup criteria too? While the E384 boots up and self checks out each subsystem, the operator goes through the physical inspection and completes the checklist. Green means go!

Accessible Flight Planning Functions

To improve the speed and ease of planning a mapping mission, we’ve taken the most common functions from Mission Planner’s right click menu and made them more accessible by placing them in the right hand pane in the Flight Planning tab. Sometimes the most simple changes can be the most appreciated!

Cam Message Indicators

Mission Planner now leaves a trail of markers where each picture was taken, making it simple to tell when an area is not being covered as expected. If the aircraft is at a high pitch or bank angle when the picture is taken, the icon appears yellow to warn you that additional coverage in the area may be needed.

There are a few more updates, admittedly more specific to the E384 platform, but feel free to check out the full list here on Droneyard. We're in the process of joining the Dronecode foundation and will work with the dev teams to get these features integrated into the next Mission Planner release. In the meantime, feel free to check out our source code on github, or just go ahead and use our compiled version right away if you want (Click Mission Planner for Event 38 at the top of the page).

  • Hi. I'm new in this. I'm trying to do a flight with my 3Dr 66 using mission planner. I did my planner the 66 games off and after it reach the 90 m it supposes to go to so2 and so one. The problem is after it gets on a

so2 it rtl. Fence is disable.I

    Thx for nelp

  • Great innovations, thank you for sharing!

  • Developer

Excellent add-on, contact Michael to get it integrated into future versions of APM Planner!

  • Ah, I did not see that before. That is excellent! Thank you!

  • @Jason - our view hides many things by default but the view can be changed back to "advanced view" in Planner configuration, without password

@Bojan - Cruise speed settings are still set in the advanced view of Survey (Grid) menu like they are set now. Since our customers use one platform we are able to set a single speed by default. This may not make as much sense for the general MP release.

  • Or what might be very cool is have a limited view option and a full view option with password protection. So the end user has a simplified view but if needed or the original designer could type in the password and have full access to all features again?

  • Looks awesome.

  • Jeff, those are excellent additions you have!  We use a very similar checklist, but it's a paper copy.  I like your idea better!  We utilize those same buttons in Planning mode too!  I also like the camera points!  Perfect, I hope they add them to the Master.  Great job!!

  • @Jason you bring up a good point that I forgot to mention. We hide a lot of buttons and menus in our version to make it more approachable for first time users. They are still possible to get at but perhaps those changes are better left to our version; the DIY users here would likely appreciate having all the information available and not hidden behind some secret menus. Thanks for the feedback!

  • Looks great!

I would love to see the checklist and mapping quick buttons added to the main missionplanner! I would like some of the other features to still be accessable though like the status tab showing all the data and the rest of the features in the actions tab, but, I really like the additions! Awesome!
