Patrick spoke with with Bryan Galusha at the recent Robotics block party and he had something to share with sUAS News.

We are excited to announce the Fighting Walrus fully-integrated RTF airframe!  This ready-to-fly airframe incorporates the features what our customers wanted most:

1.  Streaming 1080p video

2.Manual control with the iOS device

3.  Low cost Ready-To-Fly kits

The RTF Airframe will integrate with the Fighting Walrus Radio to enable an unparalleled ground station experience.  Video streams from the drone are geo-encoded and embedded into the iOS application, allowing users to monitor drone orientation and position while watching the video stream.

  • Hugues, you are missing something, well a lot. This was our intention from the start but instead of working together with us and letting us handle the airframe part, as we actual design and manufacture it, they copied the airframe very blatently and simply marketed it as their own, REMOVING all mention of SteadiDrone in their campaign and then offering their very 'own' airframe RTF Kit, which is simply not true.

Regarding SteadiDrone, we are not a us based company (South Africa) and still small but growing very quickly and you will soon see more of our airframes and RTF kits, it takes time ;)

    Hi guys,
Not living in america, i have another view on things, not so IP paranoid as these crazy american lawyers. I sincerely do notsee where the problem is if Bryan improved an existing frame, making good publicity in the process for steadidrone. We have ro recognize that steadidrone is totally unknown (in europe anyway) and thus this walrus initiative make them known to more than 37000 users. I do not understand why steadidrone and bryan are not mature enough to find a Win Win arrangement, rather than exposing publicly an uninteresting ego fight. Why can't steadidrone just get royalties on the project? Does not seem so comlicated. maybe i miss something.
  • Bryan,

I had contributed $976.00 to your effort thinking you had an original idea and needed funding to make this idea a reality. However, copying someone else's idea and using it in our project without their permission is unacceptable. I want a refund in full.

  • Distributor

wow got to love the internet... :)

I never was under the impression that the yellow SteadiDrone QU4D was the frame in question... I was thinking it was there just as an example, not the actual product...  Anyhow, back to the product itself, the Radio... Bryan please deliver an outstanding product. I know you are looking for more backers and time is running out but please never start an IP fight around here... It will actually do more damages than any good.

  • It was an interesting banter, and I am glad that Duran-SteadiDrone stood their ground; but also that Fighting Walrus did the right thing (eventually).  There are a gazillion other platforms for Quads, some better some worse.  I've got at least 6 and a hexa copter as well.  Eventually when I get some spare change and some time to play, both the SteadyDrone and the Fighting Walrus would be nice to play with.  In the mean time, I still have to get the OpenPilot, newer APM (where is 3?), DX4, wow... so many choices.  Not like in 2005 when the only thing you could get was Draganflyer, and hacking those was next to impossible, 'cause nothing was known.  To say nothing of payload, crappu old cameras, data links for telemetry....  Thanks to guys like Chris, the 3-D Robotics staff, jDrones, Duran, and and a growing (exponentially it seems) number of new-bees (Bryan?), and a bunch of others, us hoosiers can just sit back and wait until we can afford to get the toys...

  • @Duran funny thing is I had never seen the QU4D before seeing the Walrus and while I don't really have a need for the walrus I am now interested in adding the QU4D to my fleet, so you may have received some unrealized marketing from this.

  • Sounds good.

  • Bryan, lets not keep on with this, you made it clear you were making your own frames, not simply doing mods for SteadiDrone QU4Ds, then changed your tune, lied about it etc etc etc, whats done is done.

I apreciate your removing it from your campaign and REALLY do wish you all the best with your radios, it's an excellent product and hope it does realy well.

  • If you wish for a refund on any Fighting Walrus product email me here:
    bryan@fightingwalrus.com
    I will refund it.

  • We added a number of modifications that made the airframe more reliable, we thought it was clear with the "Fully-integrated" phrasing it wasn't.  We will not proceed.
