Foamaroo First Flight

We had a very successful flight on the Foamaroo prototype yesterday.  The Finished airframe came out at 2 lb 11 oz complete with 2200 mAH battery.  It was windy yesterday with 15 know winds and the Foamaroo handled the conditions very well.

After a short trim flight I was able to launch the plane with a single handed toss and was happy to see that it would climb out wings level with no input on the transmitter.  I did several launches and landing as well as flight at different speeds and am very happy with how the plane flies.  Roll and pitch response is very good and the speed range is great.

  • The plane is great! How can i get more information about setting up a complete system?. I want to do vertical aerial photography with it.  I'm very excited with the possibility of performing long missions with it.

  • We're now flying the shoulder wing version of the Foamaroo. The shoulder wing gives a slightly higher L/D (12.3:1). We've been doing a lot of high speed testing and haven't experienced any flutter with the new spar system on both of the Foamaroo types. The longest flight distance so far has been over 12 mile (24 miles round trip) with plenty of power to spare.
  • ARC is almost ready to cover. Just needs a little prep.
ARF is covered and needs all electronics installed.
UAV is the ARF with both domes.

    Clear - clear acrylic dome
    Glass - opaque fiberglass dome
  • What's the difference between ARC, ARF and UAV?  Also, I'm not sure I understand the difference between a "clear dome" (plexi?) and a "fiberglass dome (Glass)" .  Is the glass dome opaque?

  • We've set the prices based on having a clear dome or a fiberglass dome (Glass) as follows:

    Dome:

          Clear

          Glass

    Kit:

    $165

    $145

    ARC:

    $220

    $205

    ARF:

    $260

    $245

    UAV:

    $300

           N/A

Please note that the UAV version comes with both domes.  We're also working on a pan/tilt system built specifically for the Foamaroo and Jackaroo.

Cool, bigger than I was thinking.  Love deltas, how much $$
  • Thanks, Mike. That's correct.

The Foamaroo will be available in kit form as well as ARC, ARF, and RTF forms.

  • The Foamaroo is based on the Jackaroo UAV from AttoPilot International and now in production under license by Hangar 18
