  • virt line scanning IR maybe? looks like it. probibly with something like this but i imagine it would be IR rather than a green laser. medium to high wattage fiber coupled IR lasers are pretty cheap these days and a low res IR camera would work nicely for a sensor. using a line lens and a small mirror attached to a motor you could get a 360 scan simply by rotating the quad/cam around once per each area. you would just need the program backing it to convert it into a 3d reprisentation. matlab should work but i dont think it would do it in real time. http://www.instructables.com/id/3-D-Laser-Scanner/
