The cool LIDAR-Lite rangefinder project hit their base goal and are now just $1,000 away from their stretch goal of $75,000. If they hit that they'll switch the LEDs in the current design for real lasers, for even longer range and accuracy. If you haven't backed the project, now is the time. Let's push them over the top! (I've now ordered a second set)

    I hope this laser range system can measure distances of at least 30 meters?

  • Can you work with anyone else before production or does 3DR have exclusive rights?

  • @Crash, could be because your copter is much quieter than most.

    Though I did have quite a bit of success cleaning up the sonar signal myself in the wall following code that I did.  I passed the readings through a mode filter, and then an LPF.  The Mode filter rejects the bad reads that the sonar can give, without upsetting the mean as happens if you use only an LPF.

  • At some point perhaps... the laser could scan an area. NOW THAT I could use.

  • And how is it possible then, that I have better results right now with sonar+baro+acc than the future laser solution shows in the video (like avoiding the car)? Maybe I should do a video on that next weekend.

  • Sonar is succeptible to air pressure issues, like that found under MR prop wash. So unless it's in completely clean air, make accurate MR use tricky to achieve.

    Lasers don't have that problem.
  • Congrats for reaching the Kickstarter goal! But I can achieve similar / better results than in that video today with the "not recommended MBTX 1200 Sonar" and not using Arducopter code of course. I really don't see the real benefit of laser devices over a good sonar + soft (greater range? but then the baro is sufficient, maybe laser in the vertical plane?).
