MIT's quadcopter with laser scanning for indoors navigation

Now we just need a LIDAR unit with long range 360 degree FOV and we've got our sense and avoid tech worked out.

I know the folks at Neato Robitics who have a miniaturized LIDAR that could sell for $30 retail. If anyone is interested I could ask them more about it.

In this video there is small shot of Agra's flying ground of MAV2008, I was available there at that time, along with Major Sharma. I have even the video of that event in my handycam.

Actually, it's a Hokuyo UTM30-LX. Details on the MIT vehicle, as well as the other entries (including Embry-Riddle) are on the IARC website.

MIT took this year 10K IARC prize, who's will be next? It will be interesting to know about type of laser scanner they are using - looking for a while, but can not find anything definitive about type (they say it is 32 yard range)
