Thirty days behind the scenes at 3DR. May 1

Every weekday in May, we’re going to be sharing a glimpse of what we’re working on behind the scenes at 3D Robotics. You’ll see many of our projects, see the facilities, meet the people and maybe get some hints at products coming out soon.  There are more than 70 of us now — in three facilities — and we’re super busy,  so there’s a lot to show!

Today, I’ll start off with a teaser. What do you think the above is and how is it used?

  • What Can do i need to make 20+ drone swarming

  • What happened to your swarm research?

  • We are planning to do an aerial light show similar to "Meet Your Creator" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cseTX_rW3uM or "49 quadrotors by ARS Electronica"  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShGl5rQK3ew using arducopters and telemetry kits.  Now that the Mission Planner has a swarm controller, what other precise tracking/navigation system aside from GPS can we use which can be integrated to the Mission Planner swarm controller?  Is there a cheaper alternative to the Vicon system which was used by "Meet Your Creator"? Maybe we can also use on-board cameras for navigation similar to those used by AR Drone 2.0 synchronized flight https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DaxcrzrOea4

Cool but hope it is not going to make the drones nag/scream at you from the sky

I like Gary Mortimer's suggestion about the toast rack.  You would have NO idea how many times I get hungry whilst out flying.  Great idea!

In all seriousness, I'd hazard a guess and say it had something to do with uber cool follow me technology. (:

It would be nice if we could use a single 3DR radio for the multiple UAVs. I want to implement multiple drone support on DroidPlanner, but carrying that array with the tablet would be messy.

Maybe I will need to go back to the xbees.

Will you be doing a twelve days of Christmas countdown as well Chris?

  • Interesting to compare what people who get paid to work on it all day are doing, to what the volunteer ardu programmers are doing.  Academia & government still need to be the majority of revenue they're all about those quad formation videos.

  • Awesome, can't wait for a demo !

  • FWIW to do RDF with a Doppler rig (that is a normal response to something that looks like that) the antenna are switched in a rotating fashion. I do not think a USB hub could do that.

This is funny, a fellow in  THIS post was asking about multiple aircraft and I told him MP didn't support it! (egg on my face!).
