About Me:
My brother and I are starting a project to take a small R/C glider to 100,000 feet with a helium balloon, drop it, and have it to return to the launch point autonomously. This is an ambitious project that we plan to take in with several smaller steps.

My picture profile is of the R/C trainer (Eagle II) I learned on... after the rubber bands holding the wing failed about 100 feet up. The fuselage beat the wing down by a good 20 seconds. I think it will make a fine testbed though after a little reconstructive surgery. Although a foam aircraft might be even more forgiving...
Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

Hey what happens if the airplane never release?

I believe I read that two methods of cut-away are required in the standard EOS amateur balloon launches. So, at a minimum, we'll need to do that. Both mechanisms will need to be tested to very low temperatures as well. Nichrome wire around the rope is common. But, to answer the question you posed Jordi, if it still doesn't release, we'll get to see how far it goes! I'd like to use two downlinks: one along the lines of XBee (short range and two-way), the other using packet via amateur radio so conceivably we could get position reports across the rest of the US if the batteries hold up. That is assuming we launch in the US one day. The regulations are another whole topic...

Hey Andy,

How is the DPCAV 5.8 GHz transmitter/receiver effort coming along? Have you worked out the banding issue yet? I plan to test my setup this week.

Happy New Year,
