Max Vne for a given frame?

Most of my frames are large, with large props and low kv motors.  Is there a way to calculate the Vne to determine when the lagging props with stall?  Something where you would input prop diameter…Continue

Looking for the most reliable parachute system for a 16kg 1300mm X8.  Not that I don't trust my Pixhawk, but the payload value is very high and of course there's the safety factor with such a heavy…Continue

Wonder if Ali Express are really selling what they're advertising?  I've bought other uav products from them before without issue, but this seems too good to be true.  I guess they could be knocking…Continue

I'm not familiar with DJI products at all, but taking a quick look they are definitely pricey in comparison to your typical DIY setup, but thats expected. I get the feeling you are in this for more than just a hobby? Do you currently have the APM2 board?

I currently use last years APM1 with a Xbee 900mhz telemetry link, a Dragonlink UHF transmitter, and a 800mw 1.2ghz video transmitter. Currently I just have a basic security type camera on a pan/tilt mount, but I'm looking to purchase a small HD camera for recording flights as well. I have a patch antenna for the video receiver, but I'm likely going to need to purchase new antennas for the Xbee and video transmitter for the long range flights. With the stock antennas I'm easily getting a 1km range on everything during my test circuits, I should be testing 2-3x that distance this weekend though.

Right now I get about 20minutes of flight time on a 5ah battery, but once my attopilot current sensor arrives I should be able to tune things better, I'm hoping for at least 25mins. The plane itself can easily handle 10ah worth of batteries, and I'm sure I could probably push it to 12ah if I needed. It cruises at around 35km/h with a slight climb, so using some altitude I figure I could reach my goal of 30km round trip without too many problems. Yesterday I did a few test circuits in my field and managed 14.5km on a single battery so I'm pretty much on target. The hardest part will be finding a location for the long range flight.

The X8 looks like a nice plane, however the places I fly I just can't see a flying wing working out too well landing on a dirt path surrounded by tall weeds, its hard enough keeping my skywalker from clipping the weeds and causing minor damage.

I've had an APM2 for a few months, but haven't used it beyond using the flight planner and the XBee 900 pro radios.  The DJI stuff is for commercial photography, but the APM was just for fun.  I fly a lot of RC stuff and thought a semi automated plane would be kind of cool.
