50km is fast :) might need a much bigger flat spot :)
  • I don't know. I've been waiting to maiden it at MARCS RC club through a heavy model inspector but the weather has been bad. This Saturday might reveal all.

Worst case scenario calculations show a 50km/h stall speed so it has to go faster than that to take off/land. Question is, how much distance does it need to get up to that speed.

We could just level another bit of land that doesn't have as much of a hill....

Will it cope with the slope?
  • I think the runway needs to be levelled more before the grass takes hold. I'd be happy to chip in for a wacker (vibration plate or "compactor") to level the soil a bit more. My (23kg) gasser needs a long runway!

I've been meaning to get some star pickets and shade cloth to mark out a do not cross flight line. We have planted grass on the runway... Unfortunately we will only get a few years flying here as the trees will be back....
There are about 10 of us that use the site, I do all my APM testing there, and all airframe testing. Only a few Km from town, but far enough that we can react well to flyaways when we make mistakes...
The Farmer whose property backs onto this area likes us as we keep the hoons away :)
The land is state forest. And all who fly there do so at their own risk.

It's not so much the wind that I mind, it's more the hail, thunderstorms and potential lightning. (:

Philip, is it a standing invite?  I'm really keen to get out there and fly some longer range stuff.

  • Yep, 40Km/h winds predicted tomorrow at midday. Never mind.
