Before Posting an Issue

Hi All,

Before posting an issue or a problem in the ArduBoat Discussion Forum, please check the wiki table of contents, review the firmware release notes in the subforum, and search that subforum for existing answers to your question. Help avoid duplicate threads by finding other members with the same issue and their solution.

When formulating your post, use a descriptive title such as "rover will not navigate to waypoints in the Auto mode" (not "HELP!" or "Problem").

Please include the following information to help diagnose your query:

  • Describe the problem you are having. What is the expected verses the observed behavior?
  • Provide hardware information such as the brand and version of your autopilot, GPS, radio, and compass, as well as any other pertinent details about your rover setup.
  • What version of the APM: ArdurRover2 firmware version are you running?
  • For navigation issues, provide your tlog and/or dataflash log. Click here for instructions on retrieving a dataflash log.

Ok I can't resist any longer, I'm in! Its either a boat or a helicopter and I have some jobs for a boat to crack on with.

    Hi All,

I have posted some pictures of the Pontoon RSV Transducer Housing suspension system here:Link

I should have the suspension system completed by tomorrow afternoon and will begin to construct the mounting plates for the Depth Finder Data Logger and Battery/Terminal Connection Housings.

    Hi Enno,

Thanks for the link, much appreciated. I will check it out. It looks promising.

  • Gd. THomas,

This is a great project, which I'm following with interest. From profession I'm running a naval architect company and here inthe office we're also having a few students working a design of an autonomous vessel.

Regarding your question to capture, parse & store data. I'm not sure but maybe the the following project might be interesting. http://openskipper.org/

    Good luck!

    @Rusty,

Thanks for the tip, much appreciated.

I am aware of the TinyGPS++library, but did not know that it can parse custom NMEA strings which will be a big help.

As you know I purchased a Adafruit GPS/Data logger Arduino shield and I suspect that the software that comes with the shield makes use of the some aspects of the TinyGPS++ library:-)

  • Hey Thomas,

I posted this on your Pontoon Boat thread as well but I'll put it here for reference.

You might want to check out Mikal Hart's TinyGPS++ library (arduiniana.org/libraries/tinygpsplus/). The library parses NMEA-0183 strings and is capable of parsing custom NMEA strings. That's really helpful when you want to read for non-GPS devices like your depth finder. We are using the library for our ultrasonic wind sensor and it works great. It will work with SoftwareSerial or HardwareSerial.

    Hi All,

I have gotten to the point with my Pontoon RSV where I need to capture, parse, and store both GPS and Intelliducer depth finder serial NMEA 0183 sentences.

I have been using Google to search for Arduino code examples that captures, parses and logs multiple external serial inputs to see how I need to modify existing Adafruit GPS parsing and logging software. So far there has been no joy during my searches.

If any of the members here has Arduino programming experience and knowledge (I know just enough Arduino programming to be able to splice existing code together and get it to run without errors) I would greatly appreciate some help with this programming endeavor.

    Hi All,
Now that the Blue Robotics T100 Thruster KickStarter Project is funded, if you ordered thrusters or ESCs or thrusters with integrated ESCs, be sure to return to the T100 KickStarter Project website Link to fill out the purchase survey.

    Hi Rusty,

Sounds like great news! Congratulations on making your third stretch goal!

    Regards,

  • Hello everyone! Just a friendly reminder that our Kickstarter campaign for the T100 Thruster ends in about 12 hours! If you're interested in an efficient, rugged, and affordable thruster, now's the time.

We hit our third stretch goal as well making the T200 Thruster available. The T200 has double the thrust and is better for larger projects and for human-carrying vehicles.

    Check it out!

Also check out our website! Shortly after the Kickstarter campaign ends, we'll be launch an online store where you can pre-order the thrusters.

New to boats looking for a hull suggestion

Hello allI have played around with fixed-wing drones before but am new to boats. I am looking to build a simple boat for the purpose of inspecting a heavily timbered section of river that it is hard to get a manned boat into and am looking for some suggestions on where to start. I don't need a sounder or overly accurate GPS (but both would be good to have). I would really like a high-resolution camera in a dome housing or similar that I could control and take photos with. I would also like a…

Rudder control for kontiki

Hi all,I want to install a rudder on to my kontiki, which is like a submarine which floats on the surface and takes a fishing line out to sea.I am thinking of using an apm 2.8 with gps (because thats what i have) to drive a 20kg servo. The gps should point at a point about 3km out from the beach and the kontiki should follow that course until the timer turns off.I would be grateful for any advise how to go about this.

How to connect 2 Brushless Motors and 1 rudder

Hi, I'm new to Pixhawk. I'm making a boat. I do have 2 brushless motor with ESC and 1 servo which is connected to the rudder. How can I connect them to the Pixhawk 2.4.8. What changes should I bring in the parameters? From readings, I come to know that servo should be connected to RC1 and motor to RC3. But what should I do when I have 2 motors, which are kept in both the ends. Thank you
