  • I mounted my 4-in-1 ESC's under the frame side by side which the stick out about 1/3 of each on either side.  This wasn't an issue for me as they aren't noticeable when the clam shell is on the top of the frame.3701944682?profile=original3701944608?profile=original

  • Scratch the HW Quattro; not enough room inside the frame for them, or probably not even for ESC's.

  • I emailed quadframe and they said their motor mounts will handle x8 using my motors no problem.

    So as it stands:

    1) Valkyrie 650 frame

    2) Replace OEM motor mounts with quadframe variety

    3) KDE 2814XF-515 motors

    4) Probably APC 13" SF props

    5) 2x HobbyWing Quattro ESC

    6) FC:   AUAV-X2 PX4/PIXHAWK Compatible Autopilot  http://www.auav.co/

    7) Neo_M8N GPS/Compass

    8) other stuff not sure yet

  • That is a nice and clean frame! What is AUW and how long does it stay aloft?

  • @DG,

Look at the ATG 600-X4-16mm frame for ideas to help you on your frame.

It weighs in very close to your frame weight.  I built mine using their quad frame with dual arms and ordered extra motor mounts which I modified slightly for routing of power lines down the CF tubing.  Provided a cleaner look.

OBTW my fame is ATG T2-X4-12 which weighs in slightly heavier (650g) than your frame. And I have 600 kv motors running it.

Looking at quadframe.us Boom and Blocks looks very similar to OMGFly's parts. So I think you can order them to match you configuration. Also I think that have counter rotating push and pull motors should minimize torque and the possibly of the motors slipping on the single round CF tubing. Definitely think you need to ensure there is no slippage.

  • Hi Doug

I picked up a Beholder Valkyrie 650 for a song. It isn't popular like a Tarot, but appears to have a strong frame with aluminum parts; supposed to be here Thursday and will evaluate it then. It's never been used, and is even assembled! The guy I bought it from never did anything with it, so I figured what the hey.

<500g frame weight, which I like.

I'm looking at motor mounts from here http://www.quadframe.us/collections/boom-blocks, but not sure if they can handle the max thrust (waiting for replay from quadframe). It isn't easy finding decent motor mounts for X8 with I'm assuming are 16mm arms. Any suggestions?

The plan is to take the KDE 515's off the Y6, and add two more from spares for this new frame. I bought Kylin mounts for the Y6 and plan to get some bigger motors for that.

  • That's cool.  What frame did you purchase?

  • Well, I just bought a new frame and have 4 extra motors with the intent to build a quad, but now just may build an x8 instead.

Camera Mount Designs

Does anyone know of 3D print camera mount designs for the X8? Or other neat DIY camera mounts?I was looking at this one for the IRIS. Does anyone have any thoughts on how difficult it would be to adapt it to the X8? Would it mainly be a matter of switching the IRIS adapter plate for a X8 adapter plate?

Landing gear for 3DR X8

So I am thinking of adding a "crab"-style landing gear to my 3dr x8 octoquad. This is mainly so I can add padding at the bottom for extra protection and for the ability to land/float on water in case of an emergency (and also for added clearance for gimbals, etc). Adding pool noodles or pipe insulation to the skids should do the trick. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations. I am looking at this frame from QuadFrame.us. It's meant for a DJI F450 but I think it will work with the X8.…

go pro charging

3dr tech support said the go cam does not charge from the x8.....yes it does. I made the mistake of unplugging the usb cable from the go cam while powered up and now I can not get the video to feed to the 3dr light view vtx or get the go cam to feed video or charge thru the main usb cable to my computer. I have tried every reset in the co cam and now the red charging light does not come on. Is there too much voltage coming off the x8 thus frying the usb in the go cam? Check out the…

Prop washers for 3DR X8+

Hi all,Recently I was flying my X8+ copter and a couple of the propellers flew off. Aside from the issue of keeping the things wound on tightly (I am considering lock nuts) I need to replace a couple of the beveled black prop washers that I lost. These things are proving very hard to find. Does anyone know where to find them without having to buy an entire motor prop adaptor to get them? You can go here to get an idea of what they look like (the prop washer is second from the top)Thanks
