  • Hi @Mirko,

I have tested both a Orange R615X and R815X on the BBBMini, my first board I had the resisters in for the 5V signal. I can confirm that it receives the SBUS signal in this config.  The bars move for each of the channels in the Radio Calibration screen.  So looking good.

I have just got all the bits for my 2nd board and will over the next week build it up as a 3.3V RCIN board.  I'll test it an see what happens.

I did have some issues with the HC-SR04, doesn't seem to work for some reason (using RFIND_test) - get '0 devices detected'.  I'll have to hook the HC-SR04 up to an arduino to see if it actually works (it's been sitting in a box for a while so I don't know if the sonar is in a working state), my other sonar has a backing board to allow me to use it with an old APM2.5 so I cant hook it up.

    Hi All,

This morning I fabricated an adapter cable to connect the 3DR PPM Encoder to the RCIN connector on the MINI v1.4 using 5vdc.

After attaching the PPM Encoder to the MINI and connecting the Encoder to a R/C receiver bound to a transmitter I powered up the BBBMINI and connected MP over the udp connection to the MINI. In the MP Radio Calibration page the transmitter bars were green and moved in relation to the positions of the joysticks and the switches. Success!

The Sparkfun logic level converters will be at my home on Thu morning. After making up some cable to adapt the 3DR GPS/compass module to the converter and the converter to the MINI GPS input we will see if MP can display a GPS connection.

    Hi All

Today Linus and I removed a couple of the bugs in the binary build.

Even without calibration the Pitch and Roll look pretty good and compass reads very close to what it should read when the LAN connector is pointed towards the four points of the compass.

I am going to make a cable adapter for my 3DR PPM encoder and we are going to see if we can calibrate a Transmitter/Receiver combination tomorrow.

I have ordered a couple of logic level shifters from Sparkfun to see if we can get the GPS communicating with the MINI cape. The shifters should be here around Friday or Saturday.

    Regards,

    Tom C AVD

  • Hi Tom, Linus,

I am really happy to hear this, please let us all know as soon as these are available.

    I want 2.

And thank you very much Linus for following through on this.

My 2 BBBs are waiting anxiously.

    Best,

    Gary

    Hi All,

I recently purchased a prototype BBBMINI Cape kit from Linus Penzlien and got it assembled this weekend in a couple of hours.

After spending nearly a month trying to get a BBB/PX Fire Cape up and running, it was a joy to spend only two hours with Linus' help to get the BBBMINI up and running.

There are still a few bugs to iron out, but basically I have been able to communicate with the BBBMINI with MP and have verified that the IMU is functional.

Since I do not have any 3.3vdc GPSs in my inventory, I will have to use a 5vdc/3.3vdc signal converter to connect one of my 5vdc GPSs to the MINI Cape GPS input.

I believe that Linus intends to sell his MINI Capes as a complete kit so that you don't have to scrounge up the parts for the pwb.

His Cape pwb is of very good quality and I had no trouble assembling the Cape with the included components. I highly recommend the purchase of his MINI Cape kit when it becomes available.

    Regards,

  • Hi,

I have both, scope was on the r815x. Its a home diy scope, it may need some calibration (although the test circuit is reading correct voltage), it was just under 1.8v. Away on holidays will know for sure if it works on Saturday.

    Regards,

    Chris

  • @Chris

    Do you use a R815X or R615X?

    Regards

    Mirko

  • @Mirko,

Thanks for creating the BBBMini, I've got mine up and running.  Now it's time to experiment with stuff.

Receiver seems to be less than 3.3V for the signal according to my scope.....

    Regards,

    Chris

  • @Mirko

Odd it reported it couldn't locate the rt kernel images and the pru-cgt-installer, no issues with the other items..... apt-cache search also didn't find them. I'll try the new image (I set it to download while I slept) tonight when I get home from work.

I'll attach the BBBMini cape once I've got all the base software on it.

    Thanks for your help.

Hmmm, it should be also possible to install the ti-pru-cgt-installer and kernel with the old image.

Build drone BBBmini

I saw on the Linus page that he stopped selling the BBBmini kit, so I ordered a shenzhen2u, it arrived in 30 to 40 days.In the kit, it features a mounting bracket for the HC-SR04, my question is: should it be mounted in front of the drone, to avoid obstacles / collisions? Or should it be mounted below the drone for the altitude hold function? Or can I put 2 sensors: one to avoid frontal collision and another to hold altitude?I found in Banggood a breakout board with the I2C and UART…

BBBmini / Matek HUBOSD8-SE / Current & Voltage sensing

First time poster and newb DIY drone builder. So please pardon my ignorance.I've sourced parts for a DJI Flamewheel 450 clone. Obviously the FC is the BBBmini, along with the recommended baro, gps, sonar sensors also picked up a genuine 3dr telemetry radio which will be connected via UART. Finally I've ordered a set of Castle Creations DMR 30/40 ESCs.I'm left with identifying the PDB and motors. I have some used DJI 2212 920KV motors that I may swap out for some EMAX or Multistar 2213 or 2216…
