Outback Joe is at his property in remote Queensland, Australia and has been feeling unwell. He has had a remote consultation with his doctor using video conferencing, and his doctor has requested some blood tests be done as soon as possible. Joe is well prepared, has a home sample taking kit, and has taken his blood sample. The challenge is now to get the blood sample to the lab. Joe’s property is very remote and to make matters worse, it has been cut off by floodwaters.

Teams are invited to attempt to retrieve a blood sample from the remote Outback Joe and return it to base where medical staff will be waiting to analyse it. Teams must deploy unmanned aircraft to Joe’s location, and then return a sample bottle from him utilising a remote landing and takeoff site close to him. They must complete all of this within one hour.

APM:Plane 3.6.0 has been released with a lot of new QuadPlane features

    See http://diydrones.com/profiles/blogs/apm-plane-3-6-0-released

and the updated documentation for QuadPlanes here:

    http://ardupilot.org/plane/docs/quadplane-support.html

  • CREATE UAS from UNSW is a go! We had a chance to resubmit to clarify something with our GPS failsafe. The team is extremely excited to get through! But there's still a load to do before the next deliverable.

  • UNSW Canberra UAV Team is a Go as well - plenty more work ahead for everyone, but here's hoping a similar number of teams get a Go decision for Deliverable 3 as well.

  • WestCoastUAV are GO

Bring your foamy combat planes if you can and we can have an epic combat ...

  • Just got notification today that Sydney RPAs is a go!  Our resubmit was sufficient to allow us to progress.  Lots to do between now and the next deadline.

pushed our GX9 heli a bit harder today, peaked at 32m/s:

  • We have a 'Go' on our D2 here at Monash UAS as well. Excited to have cleared this massive milestone, look forward to developing things further!

  • Sydney RPAs (my team) is a 'improve and resubmit', our state diagrams where not up to scratch.  Should be something we can fix tonight / tomorrow and fingers crossed we'll be in.

  • This was in the email:

    - If you have a GPS loss then you cannot detect the GeoFence crossing.
Your GPS loss procedure must take this into account. You may loiter
for a short period to try and re-establish GPS, but no dead-reckoning
    flight home will be allowed.

  • No we just accidentally left in "dead reckoning back to base on GPS loss".  None of us saw it on one section of the D2 that it appeared.  Some of our D2 was copied from one or other of the D2s that we had.

We have just changed it to Circle for 20 seconds then terminate.

Quadplane development

Some people have asked me about adding quadplane support for APM:Plane for OBC2016. I've started on the code for that, and last night got it to hover as a quad and smoothly transition to plane mode. For anyone wanting to follow along with development, the tree I'm using is here:https://github.com/tridge/ardupilot/tree/quadplane-wipThere is a lot more work to go, but that should give you an idea of the rough structure I'm aiming for.

Dalby OBC2016 location, mission and fence in SITL

I've added an approximate set of waypoints and a geofence for the example OBC2016 mission to ArduPilot SITL. You can get it in SITL like this:cd ArduPlanesim_vehicle.sh -L Dalby --console --mapparam load ../Tools/autotest/ArduPlane.parmwp load ../Tools/autotest/ArduPlane-Missions/Dalby-OBC2016.txtfence load ../Tools/autotest/ArduPlane-Missions/Dalby-OBC2016-fence.txtarm thottleautoThe coordinates are very rough, just taken visually from the supplied image. Please don't use them for anything…
