About Me:

My wife and I give workshops all over the world. I use footage from my drones together with other footage to share with our clients and other followers.

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest

I have a Solo, a Phantom 2, and an Arris X-Speed racer. I want a waterproof drone and an octocopter that can carry a larger camera. I use a Taranis controller and have both FM and GPS trackers. I use a GoPro with a modified Medium width lens.

"Eric, it's a bit of a pain.  The main things are to make sure the motion of the gimbal in operation won't contact the (rather stiff) cables, and the other thing is to make sure the cables aren't making the gimbal tilt.  I've done it a few times and…"

"That upgrade looks like a good option. Thanks for the tip."

Datta Groover replied to Datta Groover's discussion What is the best (remote) controller type for multi rotors?
"Thanks.  I've had phantoms fly away even when there was no signal loss, and once when I had partial control.  I always carefully test to make sure the RTH works.  I'm 98% sure it was a Phantom issue, and DJI, to their credit, gave me a 50% credit…"

I would love to know what you think the best (ground) controller is.I currently have a Taranis D9 (not plus), and it is great, though I am not 100% confident as I had a couple of DJI flyaways/crashes while using it -  which could have been nothing…

"Thanks for that.  Great info.  Hopefully by the time I'm ready for the gimbal, there will be some breakthroughs (either in pricing of DJI's or Movi's or better software for the iFlight)."

"Yeah, I love my Taranis.  I have an original X9. I've only used it on my Phantom 2, though since it crashed (and DJI gave me a brand new one) I've only used the stock remote with it.  I have an Arris X-Speed 250 I want to use my Taranis for. I…"

"Thanks. I've been thinking about that.  I love my 5D, but most of what it is good at is on-the-ground stuff, and low-light.  Neither is my need for a drone.  I may go with risking a $500 Sony 5100 rather than a $4K camera (with glass), especially…"

"Cool.  What gimbal are you using for the 5D?What's your (remote) controller?Apart from the Teradek, how does it work?  What do you wish you had gotten for your video stream?"

Datta Groover replied to Datta Groover's discussion If price was no object, how would you build your Octocopter?
"Looks like that one is around $7000 without a gimbal.  IF I'm reading the price correctly.  What makes them better, in your eyes?"

"Great information, thanks. Nice to hear that works for you.  I had heard about the iFlight motors, but I didn't know they are as good as the T-motors.What remote controller do you use?"

Let's say your only limitation was that it had to be 4 feet of less in diameter. If you could get anything you wanted, without considering cost. The objective would be the most stable, secure, and versatile video and photo platform possible,…

"That Sony makes more sense than putting a $4K 5D hundreds of feet in the air, and for that use, the picture quality is probably comparable.  I like you use the phrase "willing to use""

"Thanks for that. What motors are you using? You use a Tarot frame, correct? The T-1000?Could you tell me why DJI S1000+ is out of the question?  Is it because of the Pixhawk open-source gives you more versatility with the build, and you are making…"
