Cannot get motors to spin up plugged into APM2

I am able to boot the APM2 successfully, and it reads my controller just fine. I can calibrate the controller in the Mission Planner software, and it reads all of my channels just fine. When I have the controller plugged into the APM2, and the ESC's plugged into it, the ESCs will never spin. They initialize with the musical tone, but will not do anything after that. I cannot calibrate them, or even get them to turn at all, even if I just try arming the controller. The ESCs work fine when plugged directly into the receiver.

I did a voltage check on the signal coming out of my radio receiver, and the voltage range is 0.16-0.27 volts. I did a voltage check on the output pins on the APM2, and I am getting a constant 2.27 volts output, with no fluctuation tied to the controller. Do I need to recalibrate the APM2 to output the lower voltages, or recalibrate my ESCs to accept the higher voltages? I don't see anything in the documentation for the APM2 or my ESCs about recalibrating the voltage.

  • Finally got it figured out after a few days of troubleshooting. I looked up the spec sheet for my E-FLite ESCs, and noticed that they max out at a refresh rate of 150Hz. I went into the Mission Planner Configuration and changed the ESC refresh rate from 490 to 125. All of the motors initialize perfectly now. It arms and works great, now I just need to get it to take off straight.

Sorry Jon but I need to go over the obvious steps first in order to eliminate possiblities that it could be?

  • Ok so I figured out that I can unplug the esc and initialize it with the controller, then plug it back in to the apm2 and it will respond to the throttle, but when I unplug the lipo and try to initialize it automatically with the apm2 it doesn't work; So the problem is with the auto initializing. Btw it is an eflight 30 amp esc, could this have anything to do with it?
