I have been trying to change my MediaTek GPS to NMEA w 38500 baud settings.  It has the DIY protocol in it right now.  I can update the firmware with the DIY protocol no problem but I believe I am missing the NMEA file when I download it from the wiki.  Any help is appreciated!!

Huh?

Missing NMEA file?

Change to NMEA?

Update with the DIY protocol?

?

?

The firmware will output NMEA by default, or the custom, binary, protocol when commanded to.

If you are using the ArduXYZ (XYZ=copter, pilot, etc.) software it will command the unit into binary when it starts up. If you hope for NMEA, you must make changes to the ArduXYZ code so that this does not happen.

If you are writing your own software, then simply don't tell the unit to go into binary. As I wrote, the default is NMEA. And the data rate is 38,400. Not 38,500.

I ended up getting it to work.  I race boats and am using it with an eagle tree data logger.  Had this extra gps and got it to work instead of buying another gps. Just did a factory reset and then changed the update rate to 5 hz.  Two evenings of tinkering and I learned a lot about this little thing and NMEA sentences.  I meant to type 38,400 in the previous post.  Didnt realize it output NMEA by default and then had to be commanded to output the binary protocol for the ardustuff on startup.  Thanks for help on this and the reply on this post :)
