It's been a while since I've built a kit, so I made several mistakes while building the kit, and I wan't to know if I've recovered from them okay.First, what is the best way ot strip the wire provided for the motors? I didn't have a stripper that would properly strip such fine wire, so I tried using a technique I've used when I didn't have access to a stripper of the right size. which is to roll the wire against the blade of a knife with my finger. The danger with this technique (especially with solid wire) is that you nick the wire, and so I had several instance where I actually nicked the wire so badly that I had to cut a piece off and start again. The second mistake was that I used the standard male headers rather than the machine pin headers, and had to cut them off, strip a new section, and re-solder them.Between the two problems, the motor wires are closer to 6 inches than 8. Will that be enough? It looked like there was a bit of excess when winding around the supports, but maybe that is needed for the vertical travel of the motor mounts. If I need to start over, what gauge wire should I use, and where do I find wire that fine?

That should be enough (you may not have to wind them around the rods, but can connect them directly). If you need more wired, it's 22 gauge wire wrapping wire, available at any Radio Shack.

The way I strip such fine wire is with my teeth (not recommended!) .
  • To answer my own question: No, 6 inches in not enough. Will 22 guage wire work, or is that to heavy/stiff. If I need the finer wire, what gauge is it, and is it available at Fry's/Radio Shack, or do I need to order it?
