Auto missions not landing, jumping, or progressing on takeoff

Started this discussion. Last reply by Austin Suhler 16 hours ago. 2 Replies

I haven't seen anyone with a similar situation so far, but I have an SK-450 with an APM 2.5, and I'm having problems switching from "takeoff" to the rest of a mission and from the last waypoint to…Continue

Arducopter Fly-aways: A PSA

Started this discussion. Last reply by Thomas J Coyle III Dec 27, 2013. 8 Replies

I have seen recently a lot of threads about sudden fly-aways occurring on previously rock solid platforms, and I feel it necessary to share my experience. I have an SK-450 quad with Ardupilot 2.5+…Continue

AltHold Baro problems

Started this discussion. Last reply by Pablo Diaz Oct 31, 2013. 7 Replies

So, I have to assume there's some code that takes this into account, but I have a problem with the Barometer. I have an SK450 with an APM 2.5+ with 3.0.1. When I'm in alt hold and the copter is not…Continue

I'm working on a research project with a group to make a communications link that bridges one point to another through multiple quadcopters that automatically find the best position to loiter and…Continue

"I had an apm 1 that would suddenly have a hardware failure at almost exactly 3:15 from boot. The gyro would physically fail to work at exactly that time. It's possible to be a hardware issue. Keep me posted!"

Austin Suhler replied to Austin Suhler's discussion Auto missions not landing, jumping, or progressing on takeoff
"Honestly though, anyone have any ideas? I've been flying for a while now, and I still haven't been able to figure it out. It's really helpful to have auto working when I demonstrate for the Air Force again, and I have a demo coming up…"

Austin Suhler replied to Konstantin Sbitnev's discussion Y6 crashed in STAB
"Upon inspecting your logs a bit, I'm missing the crucial data that will tell me what happened, but the video you got tells a lot :) What baffles me is the drop in throttle almost exactly when the copter starts to tilt up. Did you cut the…"

Austin Suhler replied to Konstantin Sbitnev's discussion Y6 crashed in STAB
"Would it be a problem for you to grab a USB cable and get a clean, non-flying tlog for me? There's a lot I can get about your current setup from the extra data mission planner provides in its log. Just pick it up, turn it upside down, 90…"

Austin Suhler replied to William's discussion Update.... really?
"Inverted? Hook your APM up to your computer and check over everything. Pick it up and move it around a bit, sideways, nose up, upside down, every which way, then post a log here, I'll take a look at it for you :) you could very easily have the…"

"The absolute best I've seen is here, and I've always used it. It makes life a lot easier :) And if you have a smallish quad that could fit on a suspended stand, or even between two beds in a dorm room, it makes visibly seeing the…"

"You should try it! I cannot even describe how incredibly fun and valuable this experience has been to me. It's landed me a research lab as a freshman in college, and plenty of job offerings, as well as my quad being one of the most fun things…"

Austin Suhler replied to William's discussion Update.... really?
"The quad I mention on the next page is an APM 2.5, and it had problems going to the 3.X.X series of code because that series uses the compass a lot more for nav and stabilization than the 2.X.X code did. That's the reason 2.8 worked for you,…"

Austin Suhler commented on Chris Anderson's blog post Ohio drone user charged for obstructing an accident scene
"     I am terribly sorry for my first comment, and take full responsibility for starting the tone of drone-focused arguments on this post. My first comment was intended to be a joke, playing on the humorous ways in which the FAA tends…"

Austin Suhler replied to William's discussion Update.... really?
"I would love to share my experiences. I have an SK-450 with an APM 2.5+ and the 3DR UBLOX+compas module. It has over 300+ hours of flight time, over 160+ of them autonomous, on firmwares from 2.9.1-3.1.2. Of all of the firmwares, 3.1.2 is the best…"

Austin Suhler replied to Finnius's discussion Loiter Not Work

Austin Suhler replied to Finnius's discussion Loiter Not Work

Profile Information

About Me:
I am an 18 year old student studying Computer science and Computer Engineering at Christopher Newport University. I'm picking up the senior capstone project from last year, an Arducopter quadcopter, as well as working with an autonomous plane. I have over 9 years of RC experience, beginning with a 1/5 scale Great Planes Piper Cub balsa kit I started building when I was 9. Since then, I have built 2 more nitro models, a PT40 and a 2M wood powered glider, and my hanger includes 3 micro and ultra-micro planes, as well as an MCX2 and MX400 3D helicopters.
Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest
I am currently just entering the field of UAV's, head first. I have been around computers all my life, and have a significant amount of programming and micro-controller experience. I currently am doing an unofficial project with Christopher Newport University using Arducopter and Arduplane, and hope to continue to aerial photography, and live video processing to identify objects of interest and investigate them autonomously. The options are limitless, and projects such as 3D mapping rooms using Xbox Kinect are possible.
