Tuning and waypoint handles: what am I missing?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Austin Suhler Apr 9. 2 Replies

I have been messing with tuning on the simulator, as well as outside in the air. I have an odd problem that happens on every waypoint exchange: On every echange, the plane, both sim and real, nose…Continue

New plane ideas and help, anyone?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Greg McHugh Apr 17. 3 Replies

I've been working with arduplane/copter for a few months now, and my interest has earned me a project at the college I'm in. Currently, we have a AXN Floater, which is essentially just an easystar…Continue

1.5 GB of memory?

Any idea why when running a simulation, the mission planner boosts to 1.5GB of memory usage? Yes, it is 1.2.41, the new version. Any help appreciated, thanks!Continue

APM adaptive flying/video analysis waypoint help

I have a quick question on sending waypoints through the APM planner. I am working on a project using OpenCV to do live video analysis of FPV feeds in order to look for "targets" for a competition,…Continue

Austin Suhler replied to Dean's discussion turnigy 9x failure
"I am very sure it is a 9x problem, with 2 of them. I am in a very radio-dense area, including multiple airports within a few miles, and extended range wifi, and if I fly out past about 700-800 feet, I immediately start getting glitches and…"

Austin Suhler replied to Dean's discussion turnigy 9x failure
"My past experiences with 9x have all been the same: crash. I simply have yet to see one actually sucessfully work. If you have 2K of gear to protect, I would recommend getting a Spektrum system instead. I have a DX7, and have never even had a single…"

"Allow me to give you something I made. It's a simple UDP setup that receives values from the planner, but you could easily turn it around to send values. Be careful though, I have noticed some float-precision problems within the python…"

Austin Suhler commented on LFLoTiTo's blog post A simple solution for an old hazzard (prop start on setup)
"My solution was, I had an old USB-mini cable where the mini side had shorted, and I spliced out the 4 wires from it. Strip the +5 and GND wire and solder it onto an old 2 pin header you have lying around, and instant USB power adapter! I hook it…"

"Good luck with your build. If you haven't looked over at rcgroups for build info take a look to see what other people have done to improve the X8. For example, take a look at this one for some good…"

"Thank you very much for the help, I've decided on a Skywalker X-8 flying wing, and just ordered $500 worth of plane equipment. I'll keep the forums posted on my experience with the X-8!"

Greg McHugh replied to Austin Suhler's discussion New plane ideas and help, anyone?
"Surprised no one has responded to this. I will give you some options that come to mind. First, when you mean cheap, how cheap do you mean? If cost is your main driver then a flying wing would probably be the least expensive (but no landing gear…"

Austin Suhler replied to QQ's discussion Trouble with RTL ! It Depend on what?
"It would certainly be nice to have.... I keep having to reference the parameter page on the wiki to make sure I'm not messing up my units again. What is the point of having an altitude in cm anyway? I know Arduplane is fairly precise,…"

Profile Information

About Me:
I am an 18 year old student studying Computer science and Computer Engineering at Christopher Newport University. I'm picking up the senior capstone project from last year, an Arducopter quadcopter, as well as working with an autonomous plane. I have over 9 years of RC experience, beginning with a 1/5 scale Great Planes Piper Cub balsa kit I started building when I was 9. Since then, I have built 2 more nitro models, a PT40 and a 2M wood powered glider, and my hanger includes 3 micro and ultra-micro planes, as well as an MCX2 and MX400 3D helicopters.
Tell us a bit about your UAV interest
I am currently just entering the field of UAV's, head first. I have been around computers all my life, and have a significant amount of programming and micro-controller experience. I currently am doing an unofficial project with Christopher Newport University using Arducopter and Arduplane, and hope to continue to aerial photography, and live video processing to identify objects of interest and investigate them autonomously. The options are limitless, and projects such as 3D mapping rooms using Xbox Kinect are possible.
