"Re the camera position: he means that you have the camera orientated to take vertical photos relative to the direction the plane will be flying. That means less coverage horizontally in the photos and the plane will have to do more rows. Most people…"

Around here doing mapping with a Skywalker X8 isn't exactly news. Still, it's exciting when you finally figure it all out yourself and get to enjoy the fun of watching the plane fly over while taking hundreds of photos. A big thank you to…

Mapping with A Flying Wing

Posted on April 18, 2016 at 10:15pm 9 Comments

I've had great success doing mapping with my Aeronavics hexacopter using a Pixhawk and Sony NEX 7 camera. But I wanted to start covering larger areas so I decided it was time for me to have a go at flying fixed wing aircraft. I started out with the excellent…

I just put a comment on the YouTube video that I think will answer your question. All you need to do is load the firmware for 'plane' on the APM and then it will work as shown in the video. I also posted info on new gimbals that might work better than my DIY project which didn't exist when I did this. Here's an example on eBay: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Hiflysky-2-Axis-Handheld-Brushless-Stabilize-Gimbal-Gopro-Hero-3-SJ4000-Funnygo-/321511459088

Cheers.
