"According to the article it has higher power density, but not higher energy density then current batteries. So it mean that you can draw more current out of the battery quickly, and charge it quicker. A higher C rating using current LiPo terms. But…"

John Arne Birkeland replied to Petrus Botha's discussion How do you calculate quadcopter lifting capability?
"You should calculate lift at ~50% throttle. In other words the copter and payload should hover at 50% throttle. The reason for this is that the copter needs a lot of thrust headroom to maneuver properly. You also get very short flight times if you…"

John Arne Birkeland replied to Philip Sulikosky's discussion Large Heli versus Large Multirotor - Which is Best in wind?
"Helis are definitively better at handling wind. But there are some tradeoffs. Helicopters are mechanically much more complex and costly. The biggest weakness with helicopters from a AP view is vibrations. It can be really hard to make a heli run…"

And for the record, let me just say that some people have WAY to much free time. :)

Hei

Hi john, i am able to get PPM output from a PIN of Thomas Scherrer 12 channel receiver. is the PPM sum signal compatible with the ATmega2560 PPM decoder or i have to decode it through a interface. actually i am more of an aircraft engineer and less of a electronic engineer. the signal is coming from a Futaba 7C Tx onto a 12 channel thomas Sherrer Rx on 12 channel pin. can i give it directly to PIN 1 of APM after shortening PIN 2 &3 or i have to use an interface using PPMencoder. please help. i am currently using APM2.23. thanx, ravi

Hi john, i tried giving PPM to channel 1 PIN of APM and shortend PIN 2 & 3. did not work. I am not getting PWM out to servoes. Thomas Scherrer Rx takes PPM pulse from Futaba 7C Radio. It has a UHF RF Module which has been connected to the PPM out of Futaba 7C, this drives a 12 channel Rx also designed by Thomas Scharrer. I think the PPM pulse form futaba 7C should pass on as it is to the Thomas Scharre Rx which has a PIN for direct PPM out? what should i do next.

Hey John!

Do you have any updates on Crawler1? What do you think of the Redcat Rockslide 1/8th? How does it hold up to your use/abuse? One of the things about the RS is that the only place making after-market parts for it seems to be RedCat itself, not many 3rd party manufacturers. Has that been a problem?

Thanks for any updates you can provide! ;)
