Gentlemen, I wonder what kind of addons you use to perform passive hold of position for UAV tails, robotic arms, domed cameras etc? Stepper motors must always be powered otherwise they'll loose 99%…Continue

John Rambo commented on Joshua Ott's blog post Boundary layer turbine (Tesla turbine) propulsion
"I've made lots of investigation last year on Tesla turbine design. The problem is an absence of scientific study on component placement (layer thickness, cross-layer gap, hole distance etc.). If brushless motors are known to reach 96%…"

"some questions: atmega2560 costs 5x the 328P, so wouldn't it make more sense to use 328P + 4051 or 4067 MUX for voltage/current sensing? Or is it the same uC to be used, not the separate-one? uC controlled battery switch, where the same uC is…"

John Rambo commented on Nick Arsov's blog post Using Smart High-Side Power Switches as a battery switch + current sensor + protection
"for $7 that's a fine device. I've been looking for this kind of function for two weeks and ended up with ACS712 for the current sensing together with MTP3055VL MOSFETS for a 5V controlled switching. Full circuit came to cost just above $6…"

John Rambo commented on Ellison Chan's blog post Iran Cracks RQ-170 Stealth Drone Code.
"hey wait a minute, I thought drones are streaming upstairs? Plus, since its a satellite uplink, it can't be analogue data stream, can it? Then, it gets a bit tricky for Iranians to capture such kind of data, unless their flying carpets are…"

John Rambo commented on Ellison Chan's blog post Iran Cracks RQ-170 Stealth Drone Code.
"one thing is to capture drone with a fake GPS signal, another is to disassemble military-encrypted code. Once they'll get that thing into the air, I'll have my thumb up (for Russians of course - they helped then, they might help now)"

"Andrew, if you're up to catch a JetStream, why are you aiming for 120k feet, instead of 50k? I did also a check on your link on x-plane simulation, but missed the pressure data on the screen - you should double check there's a standard ISA…"

"Temperature is a least thing to worry about (IMHO). At altitude of 36km you'll have pressure of ~500Pa, which is  200 times less than that on then surface of earth. For your plane to fly, it must either have 200 times aerodynamic surface,…"

Gentlemen, I wonder what kind of addons you use to perform passive hold of position for UAV tails, robotic arms, domed cameras etc? Stepper motors must always be powered otherwise they'll loose 99% of the torque they generate, so I presume there should be something similar to electromagnetic clutches / brakes with the only difference - they must be always "on" (with help of some rare-earth magnets or mainsprings), where, in case some trun/move must be done, an extra electromagnetic force is…See More
