Auto tune worked great, much better than I expected. The only side effect is the difference in stick movements afterwards between stab mode and loiter/positionOtherwise pretty much perfectContinue

APM2.5 V3 no longer flying Octocopters

Started this discussion. Last reply by Mark Slater Oct 11, 2013. 4 Replies

I'm led to believe that V3.01 on an APM2.5 cannot fly octocopters in anything other than Stabalise/Alt Hold modes due to overload on the processor bringing the 50Hz loop down to around 5Hz.1. Is this…Continue

"Its an optical illusion, something obscured the LEDS. There are two strips down the booms - White - Front. Red = Back plus a double row of reds on the rear of the machine on the Anti Vibe plate. "

"Looks good, I need to try autotune. The light bar under your copter - what do they represent? I notice at one point not all were lit."

"Ok, for a start the Imax is at 500 - for some reason mine shows 500 as well, I'm not sure this is a result of auto tune though. I have a friend with a similar problem. Auto tune went well but it now just rolls on take off. In his case the auto…"

"Thanks, I'll use the PIDs as is and see how it goes. I'm a little worried by the 500 imax and where that came from. "

"Yes, I'll put the camera on now I trust it a little more. That default Imax does seem strange, i noticed it when I was first setting up - I'm hoping its an error in MP, certainly seems to fly straight so I'm a bit loathed to change…"

Giuseppe D'Angelo replied to Mark Slater's discussion Auto Tune on Large Octo
"great work and great video! But I think you have to repeat the autotune with the camera on the gimbal, because it changes the weight and the overall balance dell'okto. So you can see the differences in the PID. Best Regards - Giuseppe (Italy)"

SD Card Failure

I was out tonight with the big Octo, it was a really calm evening so I tried autotune. All went exactly as expected and I landed, disarmed, refreshed telemetry - all the new values looked go so flew out the rest of the battery on the new PIDs - very impressive.Landed and changed batteries but the Pixhawk refused to boot.  Beep code BEEP BEEP BEEP DAH DAH DAH  (which indicated no sdcard)I removed the sdcard - it looked fine and re-inserted it. No joy, tried several times.I then inserted the card…See More

"I just made this mistake, however in my case plugged it in with pin 1 (red) in the correct pin - this omits pin 6 and connects on the first 5 pins. But the gps works like this - pin 5 must be grounding somewhere. Use caution you can plug it in…"

Mark Slater replied to Eddie Weeks's discussion Hello ? Why did the APM shut off Motor #1 ? Does anyone care there could be a serious problem here ?
"Hi Eddie, The logs you post are from two different flights so that makes it difficult to analyze. The TLOG shows the problem. BUT its not a motor shutdown, if you look at your RC input at exactly the same time as Motor 1 reduces power and motor 2…"
