5.8 and 2.4 signals in close proximity

HiCould very close placement affect each other to the point of causing interference or weakening the signal?flight rx antennae are quite close to the 600mw 5.8 video tx.  Most importantly could the…Continue

Underwater Quadcopter

HiThis may sound crazy.  How about a quadcopter designed for underwater use.  Brushless motors operate perfectly well submerged and the rest can be waterproofed quite easily.  Idea being that one…Continue

Yaw heading issue

Started this discussion. Last reply by Oliver Wetmore Jul 23, 2012. 3 Replies

HiI have been flying my DIY quadcopter for about 2 months now and although it is very stable, I have a small yaw issue.  For example, if I yaw clockwise the quad will yaw correctly to that point but…Continue

"You wouldn't even need a wire. Bluetooth doesn't go very far under water but would be good enough to go through a plastic hull of a ROV...and have a receiver in side."

"Why keep the camera inside? A go pro in a waterproof case with a signal wire ran into the ROV would solve allot of problems "

"A quad is designed for the air. Why try to make one that will do both and just make 1 for underwater? I mean you would probably burn your motors/ESC just running them with that much resistance in water (like running a larger prop then your setup was…"

"The temp difference isn't as important as the amount of moisture in the air in the enclosure. A few things you can do about this are:- 1,Put the craft (or camera housing) in the fridge and get is super cold before sealing it up. This will force…"

"Just a guess but I think a regular quad copter motor set up would burn out under water as the motors would encounter such drag they would but out the esc's. Could be wrong but that's my guess. There are several RC submarines that could get…"

"This was something I saw recently. http://www.aquacopters.com/ I'm planning to do a fiberglass water resisitant drone instead of a water proof drone, but I think it works. Tell me how it goes!"

"Ah yes I see the four props and thus the craft is vertical in flight then drops down to horizontal for under water. You would only be able to control depth whilst moving forward or backwards but maybe some applications would be happy with that. You…"

"This is true, however the power requirements underwater and in the air are very different. With a quadcopter-sized propeller, you'd only need a few watts of power to maneuver underwater."

Profile Information

About Me:
Not much really.. I have a passion for things RC related amongst other things.

my youtube channel may divulge a bit more as to what I do.

Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest
Been flying RC planes for 10 years now, decided to move onto quadcopters in 2011 and have since built 11 copters of various sizes using various flight controllers. I build from the ground up slowly making improvements here and there with each new build. Started with FPV in 2012 and since then only fly in this manner. Preferred frequency is 5.8 since it doesn't clash with 2.4 radio link. Luckily I've had few mishaps of which all were pilot error. I believe that spending time on the build paying attention to solder joints and other details are key to a smooth flying machine.
