Phil Ellerbroek replied to Roberto garza's discussion Best use of UAV for potatos (and best UAV overall) in the group Agricultural UAVs
"VERY poor orthomosaic results. For example, look at the right half of the pivot. The spotted "squares" indicated incorrect ortho processing. From similar reviewed results, this looks to be from Pix4D. Yes? Phil"

Phil Ellerbroek replied to Jose F Moreno's discussion Thermal imagery in the group Agricultural UAVs
"Yes. Using a uncooled microbolometer camera such as a Flir Tau 2 or DRS core is very dangerous for this line of work according to NASA. There are SEVERAL issues that affect the quality and accuracy of the data, including calibration, atmospheric…"

Phil Ellerbroek replied to Thierry YABI's discussion Use of UAVs to calculate with precision areas of cashew farms? in the group Agricultural UAVs
"This requires very specific NIR sensors, as well as unique data processing and analysis. Most important, need minimum resolution, overlap, and must know the precise timing during the growing season. Our company specializes in creating these case…"

Phil Ellerbroek replied to RG's discussion What makes dronedeploy so fast? in the group Agricultural UAVs
"Oh...and ps. Good luck flying a fixed wing at 200 feet agl st cruise speed (usually 20-30 meters/second) and getting proper overlap for creating orthos. Off the shelf sensors, including Sony, won't trigger shutters fast enough, especially for…"

Phil Ellerbroek replied to RG's discussion What makes dronedeploy so fast? in the group Agricultural UAVs
"One can move and process ANY data quickly if it is compressed and quality is degraded, especially imagery. Nothing novel there. Of course, this assumes one accepts the limitations of using a very limited selection of available sensors, and that you…"

Phil Ellerbroek replied to Beau Guidry's discussion Flir Tau and other IR cameras
"Both systems seem to require a rather inconvenient on board computing system that weighs costly grams to a UAV from what I see. Not the case with ICIs. I would enjoy seeing a net grams weight for total core system including lens, computer, and all…"

Phil Ellerbroek replied to Beau Guidry's discussion Flir Tau and other IR cameras
"Beau, I strongly recommend ICI Cameras. Their new 9 series cameras are amazing. What is unique is that unlike FLIR TAU and DRS cores, they put out a digital signal, which means multiple advantages for processing afterwards. Contact Gary there and…"
