I would get asked all the time to film stuff for clubs and sports I am a member of. I tell them all now drones are not a risk at all. Driving to a baseball game is way more dangerous. But if something ever happened I could make international news so not interested. As to that video I would take a hit from the phantom over a baseball any day. But hitting someone with a baseball will not make the news and send you to court.

in this case the feckless idiot WAS "talked to" and his flying "Discussed" with an experienced professional drone pilot a few minutes before the accident, it was the guy flying the drone that took the video. the bad pilot decided to ignore the advice he was given. looks like there will be some happy lawyers in Quebec!!

Hey Gary, I don't know how to operate my TV remote properly. Too busy creating drone technology.
I only hope we (society) can find a balance so the responsible ones can still fly wherever they want, while punishing only those who do stupid/illegal things.
I was hovering my copter over my roof for about 1/2 hour the other day... endurance test.
looked at the video later and saw something I didn't notice from the ground...
A cop pulled in a little dead end street a block away, stepped out of his car and was staring at it the entire time it was in the air. He was waiting to (I'm guessing hoping to) find a reason to kick me to the ground and arrest me.
My personal hope is that she gets a sizable settlement so it sends a message as to what can happen to all the other feckless idiots out there.
The biggest problem right now is that a majority of Phantom like quads are being sold to people who can't even operate their TV remote properly and they have no clue as to what is reasonable and safe and what is not when it comes to multicopter operation.
And nobody ever reads any of those safety warnings that comes with the stuff you buy anymore, when an electric toothbrush has 2 pages of safety warnings, people learn to just throw them away.
I am afraid only a bit of visible liability is going to bring it home to the general public that these things actually need to be flown responsibly and that means learning exactly what that is.
