3DR 915mHz air module problem

Air radio green light is solid. red light is dim and blinks slowly.

Cannot connect to the air module. Have tried plugged into the APM 2.5 and with FTDI cable (on both a Mac running bootcamp (Windows 7) and a Windows 8 machine both with the latest FTDI drivers loaded. The module will appear to go into bootloader mode (red led solid) when GND and CTS are shorted, but all attempts to connect to the radio fail.

Ground module is working fine (other than the fact that it cant connect with air module!)

I've read through most if not all of the other posts concerning connection issues with these radios. Just wondering if there is anything else i can try before I call it and purchase a new air module. Thanks!

    Tom-

    Go old school! I have no trouble getting it to accept AT commands via an old PC with a real serial port and some freeware Modem Program off the internet. I have CTS grounded and RTS open, Don't believe it has to go into bootloader to change parameters,
