3dr links only works with usb

Hi Folks,

after i dig out my copter for about one year of absence the first i did was updating it to the new arducopter firmware. However, everthing works fine while connected via usb.

then i unplugged usb, put my 3dr radio into the pc and powered the copter with its lipo and... the 2 radios didn't found each other. Well i thought of some msiconfigration. I unplugged the lipo from the copter and put the usb cable back in... well the 2 radios found each other immediatly.

so in short... if the copter is powered with usb the 2 radios connected immediatly. if the copter is powered standalone with lipo and usb disconnected they keep green blinking... i have absolutly no clue how this can be.

i'm thankful for all tipps you maybe want to share with me about this problem. i have no clue what to do now.

  • I mean printscreen from MP or 3DR Radio config tool, with config loaded from both radios simultaneously...

There we can't see FW version, if both radios has same settings etc.

    • this is mainly the config of both. As i said, if connected via usb they both find each other, so i'm pretty sure it's not a settings issue, maybe you can tell me what you are looking for.

      • I'm looking for differences between units, difference in FW versions etc.

Can you post pictures of your config while "the copter is powered with usb the 2 radios connected" and "copter is powered standalone with lipo and usb disconnected". I can't clearly understand this states...

For propper work it's enough, if both units have stable +5V power, nothing more....

        • Well it's simple. if the copter is powered with lipo my ground radio is not going to connect, it keeps green blinking.

But if i disconnect the lipo from the apm and connect the APM via USB to the PC too, both connect immediatly and stop blinking.

          • Disconnect APM from everything except 3DR radio and power it with simple BEC, connected to INPUT servo rail. Measure Vcc on telemetry port. Check, if it works.

            • thanks for the suggestion but i do not connect the apm via BEC:

however to disconnect the radio i have to disassemble the whole copter, this is a lot more complicated than it should be. well will do it in the next few days. I hoped their might be something i can do in the settings without changing something on the hardware.

  • Show config of your radios.
    • sure...
