Adding extra functions to MinimOSD

I have started to add functions to MinimOsd code.

At first i did it for myself only. Added many functions i thought i need. Then opened this thread.

after a while, Pedro and later Miguel came, and things started to happen fast. :D

They have optimised the code and added even more things to it.

They have worked hard on CT, and it became a great tool!

Thank you Bough! :)

By now MinimOSD-Extra got a pretty advanced OSD.

Here it is in action:

Added:

- Changeable unit measurement (US, metric)

- Airspeed

- Home alt

- Battery Percent

- Battery used mah

- Current Draw

- Time From Startup (cleared at takeoff to show exact flight time)

- OSD Menu

- Variometer

- Wind horizontal speed and direction, and also the average wind speed of the last few minutes.

- OSD on/off

- Switchable secound screen

- WP distance

- WP heading

- Crosstrack error

- Warning messages for Lost GPS fix, Stall, Overspeed, battery volt, battery Percent, RSSI

- Efficiency, glide distance & thermic notifier. 3 in one panel

- OSD Brightness

- HAM Call Sign

- After flight summary

- Trip distance

- Temperature

- Smoothened horizon

- Real heading

- RSSI

- Vertical speed

This functions can be turned on and off, and placed on different screens now, by the Config. tool.

Also RSSI, switching mode and channel and unit measurement, Stall speed warning, Overspeed warning, Battery warning volt, Battery percent warning, RSSI warning,  can be set in new Config Tool.

We built in a new way of setting video standards. Now OSD does not guessing anymore :). You can set it fixed from CT. It is in "Video Mode" menu.

Here is how it looks: (This video is a bit outdated, sorry. I will make a new one soon.)

The MinimOSD-Extra project is here: Link

This project is the developing version of the official Arducam OSD located here: Link

The latest stable version is: 2.2

The latest version can be downloaded from here: MinimOSD-Extra R800

Username: MinimOSD_Extra

Password: Top_Secret

CT is included. (The FW for Plane, Copter, Character upload and the character file is in the "FW & Char" directory inside CT directory)

We are sharing it to see videos you make using it! :)

Enjoy

  • I have a question:
How does the APM know where sea level is? There is no place to enter a barometric pressure. Does it just assume a standard pressure of 29.92" (or 1013)?
  • At last I got the right weather to test new version to the max, everything now looks good, no range problems and signed integers :), thank you Gabor. Next target - Moon :D

  • Sorry, little confused.  I'm looking to download a stable release.  It says 2.1 is stable, but there is no 2.1 in the downloads, and 2.2 copter locks up on me all the time :(  Help?  Thanks :)

  • Hi I have minimosd and apm 2.6, i try to read rssi link on minimosd but i don't find the solution....

I have ezuhf 8ch diversity (8 ch on ppm slot ch1)

    Rssi link on CH7

    Do i need a convertisseur pwm/analog ?

    Thanks

  • The best solution to the space issue is to develop CT software that can automatically compile a .hex that includes only the features that the individual chooses. It would show a live tally of space left so the user can select the features he desires and use every last bit of space for his custom firmware. Although I look forward to future hardware development, I already have 7 of these boards and I appreciate how affordable they are.
I know I've posted this before and I'm sorry to be repetitive, but it seemed like it on topic with today's dialog.
  • I have been flying a lot of long auto missions lately and there is one piece of information that I am missing. I want to know what altitude the next waypoint is at. It cuts the throttle and starts descending towards a ridge line, and I can't remember where I had programmed it to level off.
I can't even tell this by looking at the MP flight data page. I have to take my eyes off that ridgeline, remove my goggles and switch over to the flight planning page to figure it out.
I know the screen is already cluttered with lots of info and no new features are planned, but I just wanted to put this out there for the future if others agree.
  • Hi Gabor,

Are there new versions of miniosd extra in development with new functions?

Or is the current osd 1.1 hardware out of its possibilities?

And thx for the great firmware.

    Rgds,

    Peter

  • Hi Gabor,

I really like the minimosd with all the extra functions.

I got now the 5v dav for the rssi on apm port 0 and the powerbrick from 3dr showing power levels

But for the video I got a separate lipo and was asking is it possible to show it voltage level on the osd?

Can I show a second power/voltage level with the osd for a second lipo on the quad?

  • Been absent from this thread for a while. Is r682 the latest? I'm seeing talk about r686 from Nathaniel but here only shows r682.

    Greetings!

I tried r686 yesterday and I have a few questions. I also found what I think are a few problems.

    1) The HAM call sign...I thought the normal behavior for this was to be steady for the first minute of the flight, then appear briefly once per minute. It's remaining static for me.

    2) When a warning is triggered it doesn't appear long enough to be read. Can we have some kind of minimum display period for each warning, say 1500ms?

    3) Once a warning is triggered the total flight time stops accumulating. See the video timeline; from the actual takeoff to the time RSSI warning is triggered the flight time displayed (1:54) at the end of the flight some 22+ minutes later matches.

    4) Once a warning is triggered you can't switch panels, even though the event that triggered the warning has passed. For example in this flight when RSSI drops below my 10% threshold briefly it triggers a return to panel 1; but once I am above 10% RSSI shouldn't I be able to switch panels once again?

    Timeline:

    Takeoff in Stabilize:           1:52

    Switch to Panel 2               3:41

    Low RSSI Event                 3:52

    Recover form Tip Stall!       13:36

    Touchdown                       14:28

Some apologies, first let me say I'm sorry for the shakey first 3:30 of the video (darn servo stretcher!). I need to work on my camera mount! Second ....youtube butchered the video quality!

    Hope this helps!

    Regards,

    Nathaniel ~KD2DEY
