Adding extra functions to MinimOSD

I have started to add functions to MinimOsd code.

At first i did it for myself only. Added many functions i thought i need. Then opened this thread.

after a while, Pedro and later Miguel came, and things started to happen fast. :D

They have optimised the code and added even more things to it.

They have worked hard on CT, and it became a great tool!

Thank you Bough! :)

By now MinimOSD-Extra got a pretty advanced OSD.

Here it is in action:

Added:

- Changeable unit measurement (US, metric)

- Airspeed

- Home alt

- Battery Percent

- Battery used mah

- Current Draw

- Time From Startup (cleared at takeoff to show exact flight time)

- OSD Menu

- Variometer

- Wind horizontal speed and direction, and also the average wind speed of the last few minutes.

- OSD on/off

- Switchable secound screen

- WP distance

- WP heading

- Crosstrack error

- Warning messages for Lost GPS fix, Stall, Overspeed, battery volt, battery Percent, RSSI

- Efficiency, glide distance & thermic notifier. 3 in one panel

- OSD Brightness

- HAM Call Sign

- After flight summary

- Trip distance

- Temperature

- Smoothened horizon

- Real heading

- RSSI

- Vertical speed

This functions can be turned on and off, and placed on different screens now, by the Config. tool.

Also RSSI, switching mode and channel and unit measurement, Stall speed warning, Overspeed warning, Battery warning volt, Battery percent warning, RSSI warning,  can be set in new Config Tool.

We built in a new way of setting video standards. Now OSD does not guessing anymore :). You can set it fixed from CT. It is in "Video Mode" menu.

Here is how it looks: (This video is a bit outdated, sorry. I will make a new one soon.)

The MinimOSD-Extra project is here: Link

This project is the developing version of the official Arducam OSD located here: Link

The latest stable version is: 2.2

The latest version can be downloaded from here: MinimOSD-Extra R800

Username: MinimOSD_Extra

Password: Top_Secret

CT is included. (The FW for Plane, Copter, Character upload and the character file is in the "FW & Char" directory inside CT directory)

We are sharing it to see videos you make using it! :)

Enjoy

  • i wonder if i could use  ''Charset-small-1-3.mcm'' with ''MinimOSD-Extra_Copter_Pre-release_2.4_r726''

I tried that already, but not a chance to work with them.

Is there any compability issue with this charset and firmware ?

    • Hi,

      It is not compatible.

      But can be fixed.

Compare it to the latest, than you will se what to do.

  • Hello guys,

Could we change the "direction to home" indicator something like the indicator is moving on the top of the compass).

I explain: when the indicator is on the left side of the compass then you have to yaw/turn left until the indicator will be center of the compass.

You have to turn/yaw left (home is at left):

       V

    |- - - - - NW - - - - - N - - - |

You are in the direction of home (home is straight ahead):

                    V

    | NW - - - - N - - - - SW|

    ???

    • Well, it is easy, but I am afraid that i don't see your point.

Why would you want a different method that we already have?

      Gábor

      • one less panel on the screen to place?

        • Well, it would not be so accurate and also can be confusing, as compass rose only displaying a 90° range.

There would be sitoations, where you would have no idea where is your home eactly relative to the plane.

I think you want a C4S like compass, that we can't really do.

In the past we was about to make a radar like panel, that would show your plane positon relative to you.

That we might do a bit later.

          But!

If you want to make your idea come alive, i can help you.

But we are not planning to have that in the "official" version.

So write me, if you need help,

          Gábor

          • Köszi Gábor írok!

So the point is, that the "arrow" is not that marked (feltűnő). With this you will know always where is the way home for the first eyecatch... :)

The other method (if the above couldn't be working) could be just replacing the arrow something more "flashy" (feltűnő) (I mean easier and quicker to recognize):

                 |            /                                                            \

                0          0          0 -        0           0       0      - 0        0

                                                      \         |      /

Something like this (in the center of the screen, but I would make a little longer the direction line):

            What do you think?

  • My recent flight with recent MinimOSD firmware "MinimOSD-Extra_Plane_Pre-release_2.4_r719.hex" with MaxiSwift on 2.4GHz video. Thanks for great work on MinimOSD! :)

The recorder somehow switched off, that it is why just around 4 minutes are recorded. Trying to find out why it is switching off. It is BEVRC 700. Probably different name for FPV Japan recorder. Otherwise 2.4 GHz is more friendly for flying for me. I only need to be careful when flying above electrical lines, the Open LRS UHF RC control glitches in that case.

    • Pavel,

      Thx for the video! :)

      • YW, Gabor!

I have new video from yesterday flight! Will post it later today hopefully! It uses all the recent firmware updates. ArduPilot 2.78b, latest MinimOSD, latest openLRSng firmware, updated GPS parameters for APM. Everything like new. With my new 2.4 video and my new ground station tripod bought! I flow in really windy condition. Around up to 27 Km/h wind. What two values for wind mean? Is it average and current wind speed?

        Regards, Pavel
