Airborn mission upload with no extra hardware?

In my setup I'm using 5 out of 6 channels on TX (5th is used for APM Mode switching). So, maybe I can use extra channel for uploading missions to UAV while flying in TX range?

More ideas about:

-Most of us have TX-USB cable for sim purposes, so we can use it as virtual_comport-to-TTL interface, connecting TX pin of usb cable with extra channel inside TX.

-Sending serial data will be received like min and max value of that channel, so maybe with some software hacking we can squeeze it on APM Mode channel.

-In APM code we will need to decode data in readable way. OR what happens if we connect that channel directly from receiver to RXD pin of atmega? Will it feel the difference?

This sounds like a very interesting idea. Considering there are commercial hobby-grade radios with incorporated telemetry, most of the hardware must support something within a hack's reach. Do you have any background to get started? I think you have a good general idea of how this could work already.
  • I think the effort to do this wouldn't be worth it. If you could get it to work the baud rate would only be 50. Better to just by a couple of Xbees.
