Hi everyone,

Im new to UAV's but Ive got the bug big time. Ive just built a tricopter using the AMP 2.5 board. I bought the AMP board from Ebay with a Ublox 6S GPS but didnt get any leads with it.  At the moment Im flying it using Stabilise mode only, because Im getting use to the controls. However Im now ready to connect my Ublox 6S GPS to the copter but I dont have the DF 13 connection lead. Im currently in Thailand and its not easy to get this DF13 lead over here.

So I was wondering if I can connect through the UART pins instead. What I mean is does the GPS connection on the AMP 2.5 board connect to any of the spare pins (UART). If so I can connect to the pins using standard servo cables which I have plenty of.  Im dying to fly using GPS.

Cheers,

Rob.

Df13 are hard to get? That is a funny joke.

    • Perhaps someone could answer Rob's actual question. Is there an alternative port for GPS like there is for telemetry?

I am guessing the answer is no. On the back of the board GPS is labeled as UART1, and I don't see any other pins labeled that. If it were me, I would solder wires onto the back of the board where the GPS connector pins are soldered through. You will see 5, but you only need 4. You can find a schematic somewhere in the wiki, if not, just use a multimeter on the outside 2 pins, these are power and ground. The inside pins can be trial and error until the GPS starts working, you can't hurt anything unless you short out the outside pins. Put some hot glue over them after they are soldered to prevent you from slipping and shorting.
If I was at home I could tell you the pinout, but you'll find it. Try Jabram's Blog on RCGroups, I know I've seen it there.
