APM 2.6 GPS + Compass on Pixhawk

Hi all

I have a brand new Pixhawk with a GPS + Compass module for APM 2.6, like this one:

http://www.goodluckbuy.com/cjmcu-108-h-apm-2-6-flight-controller-gps-lea-6h-integrated-compass-sensor-for-multi-rotors.html

The connectors doesn't fit in the Pixhawk so I cut the cables that came with the GPS + Compass unit and the 6 and 4 pin cables that came with the Pixhawk, soldered them together in a "straight" way so the leftmost line is still , what I believe is, the leftmost line. Se attached photo. Is this correct?

The GPS + Compass unit didn't come with any documentation and I can't find one online but it should work with the APM 2.6. In an effort to find the pinouts of the APM I tried to view the Eagles files on this page: http://store.3drobotics.com/products/apm-2-6-kit-1, but it wasn't clear to me which connector is what and how it's actually oriented. Also, the linked file is APM 2.5 and not 2.6. Maybe there is no difference?

Anyway, the GPS dosn't work when I connect it to the Pixhawk. I can't see it in the software, nor does the LEDs on the GPS + Compass unit light up.

Can anyone enlighten me or point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.

  • i am in the same boat.....did you ever figure out how to connect it ?

i got a pixhawk and two apm boards, and when plugged into the apm boards it is doing its thing no problem...but with pixhawk no go

    • Well, no, but the GPS module turned out to be broken. I bought one from 3D instead.

I did however get it to power up but i had to change the pins in the cables connectors according to the link above. The pins on the APM is not the same as the Pixhawk as I understand it (I dont own a APM though).

      • by luck i found a picture of with labels of the pin output, and a picture of pixhawk input, 2 wires are not being used ....and it works, within 10 minutes of plugging it in it had 20 sats, and hdop of 1.13  awesome ! look at the pictures and then i just took the pins out of apm end of the wire and stuck them into a 6 pin df13 plug i had left over so that gnd goes to gnd, tx to tx, rx to rx, and vcc to 5v, two wires are not being used, so i just cut them....the pins in the df13 plug is somewhat loose, so make sure they insert fully into the pixhawk....once confirmed to work, i would cut the wires and solder them to a df13 lead.

your post is what google finds first....so i hope the pictures will clarify it for someone in the same situation

  • Hi Erik

Recently I also bought APM2.6 GPS+ compass have you figure out how to use it with pixhawk

  • I have made some progress with help from this post: http://www.dronetrest.com/t/apm-2-6-power-issues-and-pinout/242/2 and now the GPS power LED lights up. I have rewired the pins and I'm fairly sure I got the 5 volts and ground correct as the LED is on. After a few seconds the second LED starts blinking and I guess that means it has locked. However, the Pixhawk doesn't communicate with the GPS at all. I tried to switch the TX and RX pins but there is now change in behaviour. The compass seems to be working just fine. I can see data in APM Planner.

What should be my next test? Maybe the GPS or Pixhawk is faulty? How can I determine which?

Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated.

    /Erik
