APM Fails to Arm

Hi,

I recently purchased an APM2.5 but received an APM2.6.  I am trying to configure the device and get it working with my quad.  I have installed ArduCopter 3.0.1.  Unfortunately, I am not able to arm the APM.  I have followed all the instructions (I think) from the Wiki (http://copter.ardupilot.com/wiki/table-of-contents/).  I am also attempting the “Pre-arm safety Check” page (http://copter.ardupilot.com/wiki/prearm_safety_check/) with no success – I never see any attempt to arm on the HUD.  Also, I did try to set the variable to bypass the safety check, but that did nothing.

I did go thru all the calibration settings.  The only problem I had was with trying to calibrate the compass  - It always reported that not enough data was received.  It is strange because the APM2.6 is supposed to use the compass in the GPS, but when connected to the PC, the HUD moves with the APM.  At this point I am assuming that the compass is not being used.

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?  Is there a special version of the software that needs to be used with APM2.6?  Is the compass calibration the issue?  And why is there no message on the PC’s HUD explaining why the arming is failing?

Thanks in advance!

Jack

  • Ouch! I just received a replacement APM. How do I find out if it is 2.5 or 2.6?

I can't ARM or complete the automatic ESC calibration. Manual calibration works fine & the motors run fine.

When I boot up in the terminal/test mode it says AP_MOTORS failed to create throttle curve.

The motor test does nothing. The motors do not move at all upon power up.

The GPS works fine and the compass & accel calibrations went OK

    Help!!

  • I have the exact same problem. I've just contacted 3DR for replacment cables. I hope they answer soon.

Does anyone have any alternative solution for the problem? Is there any way to fly without compass? Will the cable solve the issue?

    Thanks.

  • Same problem here.
  • Hello Jack, I have exactly the same problem.

In my case they have send the APM 2.6 as ordered but the GPS cable was incorrect, apparently they have send bunch of them with 6 to 6 pins instead of 6 to 5. Even though the compass is connected and HUD moves, compass calibration fails with the same error message. Red LED in double blinking, set the variable to bypass the safety check, but that did nothing as well. So it looks like GPS needs to be up and running in the new APM 2.6.

So my only option is to wait for the correct cable to arrive, 3DRobotics is lugging behind big time with this problem.
